Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl was commissioned to enhance and protect ecological habitats within Rifle Range Nature Park, a 66ha buffer abutting Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
With more than 7km of trails, boardwalks and a freshwater wetland located in a former quarry, it is also home to a rich variety of plants and over 300 species of wildlife including Sunda Colugos, Sunda pangolins and leopard cats. The 31m tall Colugo Deck above the cliff took inspiration from the flying Sunda Colugo, where visitors can enjoy the one-of-a-kind panoramic forest view over the Quarry Wetland.
“With Biophilia as the guiding design principle, Rifle Range Nature Park is the embodiment of how Ramboll restores and regenerates the local ecological environment. Our design allows safer ecological crossings for various existing arboreal and terrestrial fauna, diversifies and enriches the existing planting. Through nature-based solutions, the freshwater wetland is now home to a rich array of biodiversity unique to its location, all while managing and cleansing the water on site. Creatures such as civets, colugos, flying squirrels, and even the critically endangered Sunda Pangolins can be found within the site.” Jelle Hendrik Therry, Design Director.
