Living at the Mauerpark | 2018

The project comprises three residential buildings and sets a striking urban conclusion for the entire residential quarter at the Mauerpark with its total of 17 buildings. The buildings offer 122 rental apartments with 2 to 5 rooms, mainly in subsidized housing. The simultaneously clear as well as restrained character of the buildings leads to an inner cohesion, in which the spatial formulation of green inner courtyards contrasts with the surrounding urban space. While the green areas bordering the neighboring properties have a public character, intimate neighborhood courtyards are located inside of the quarter, each enclosed by several buildings.

Berlin Wall

The former Wall strip is a site steeped in the history. After the fall of the Wall, local residents reclaimed the resulting wasteland (the former Wall strip between Bernauerstrasse and Gleimstrasse) for public use as open and green space. In 1994, the strip was officially rededicated for the park use by the Berlin Senate. With the implementation of the housing project on the edge of the Mauerpark, the urban development initiated in 2012 has become a reality by 2018.

Air Campus Adlershof | 2020

Berlin-Adlershof has developed into Germany's largest science and technology park and at the same time Berlin's most important media location. 1,200 companies, scientific institutions with 22,000 employees and over 7,000 students and trainees are working at this location. Two new office and commercial buildings were built on the main axis of the technology site in Rudower Chaussee, forming the Air Campus Adlershof. The buildings on Plots 2 and 3 are an extension of Air Campus Adlershof 1, which was completed in 2013.

Clear proportions

The clear and functional appearance of the two buildings is determined by the coherent proportions on the typological level and at the same time by their high-contrast facade structure. A special feature is the determining rhythm of the floor-to-ceiling window elements in interaction with the plaster surfaces, which form an additional textile level with a varying degree of grain. Different levels lead to a complex charge in the overall calm appearance and to the ultimate defining quality.

The buildings are characterized by office spaces in differentiated sizes with effective layouts and state-of-the-art equipment. Plans call for twelve office units on the upper floors and three units on the first floor for retail. The two construction phases with modern commercial and retail space in the Adlershof Technology and Science Center allow for a flexible spatial layout with areas ranging from 400 to 7,000 square meters.

Budersand Hotel Golf & Spa | 2010

The unique Budersand Hotel is nestled between the sea, dunes and a golf course and offers a magnificent view of the vastness of the North Frisian Island landscape in all directions. With its clear and modern language of form, the five-star hotel opens up new perspectives in the interplay with the surrounding coastal landscape in a constantly changing light.

Modern interpretation

On the green ground floor, which slides under the neighboring golf course, there are four connected buildings. Each building has its own inner courtyard, which directs light and air deep into the interior, thus creating lightness and transparency. The choice of natural materials and light colors alludes to regional construction methods and reinterprets them in a modern way. The facades are covered with a permeable layer of cedar wood slats that turn silver-grey, which ensures the intimacy of the guests and at the same time refers to the traditional thatched roof.

Four directions

All areas and rooms have large, threshold-free glazing and allow the inside and outside to merge. Hotel guests have 80 rooms and suites with a great view of the landscape. Furthermore, an extensive lobby with a bar and a wine bar, a unique restaurant located directly at the seaside, a library, an extensive spa and wellness area in the dunes as well as numerous outdoor and roof terraces are available for guests in .

Upper Secondary School of Banking and Insurance in Berlin | 2012

Extensive reconstruction and a new facade design as well as a complete energetic refurbishment of the Upper Secondary School of Banking and Insurance in Berlin-Moabit. As part of the energy-related refurbishment, the building from the 1980s was completely overhauled and got a new architectural and urban expression. The light-colored facade surfaces of the elongated building are linearly structured with dark-colored facade bands by integrating all functional elements. The proportions of the school building are significantly influenced by the formation of the building's base in dark fired clinker brick, which at the same time robustly anchors the building in the urban space.

Energetic refurbishment

The construction measure involves the complete building envelope, the reformation and upgrading of the facade and the renovation of the entire roof and exterior areas. All facade and window constructions were redeveloped and integratively designed in accordance with the energy requirements for thermal, acoustic and solar protection. The existing structure of reinforced concrete walls with precast concrete curtain walls was structurally and physically developed in accordance with the energy saving regulations. The base area on the first floor received a clinker brick facing and the entrance areas and door systems were redesigned as well.

Riverside Europacity | 2019

In the Wasserstadt Mitte residential quarter around 700 apartments of various sizes were created on more than 50,000 square meters of rental space. The quarter is located in the Berlin-Mitte district, not far from the main train station, directly on the bank of the Berlin-Spandau shipping canal. It consists of four urban modules which, together with the historic Kornversuchsspeicher, form an important building block of the new Europacity, a mixed urban quarter with residential, commercial and cultural uses.

Northern end

The extensive residential block 'Riverside' opens onto the water and forms the northern end with around 200 apartments. It is thus an important component of the entire Europacity development area. The overarching, urban scale is just as present in the building as the differentiated spatial staggering and depth of the facades with balconies, loggias and terraces as an attractive offer for the residents. The central location in the city, the direct connection to the waterfront promenade of the Schiffahrtskanal and the Nordhafenpark right in front of the entrance door form the framework for a variety of apartments of different layouts and spatial concepts up to co-living. They are individually typologically readable and gathered under a common roof.

Living in the Waterfront city

Europacity is an important project of Berlin's urban development in a central urban location, on an area of around 61 hectares. A total of around 3,000 apartments and approximately 16,500 jobs are being built here. The new residential block gave the Europacity district an accentuated structure as a finishing touch on the northern harbor. Together with the neighboring new buildings and the historic granary as a place for art and culture, the new residential building forms the Wasserstadt Mitte.

Stones and water | 2010

Today we'd like to show you the model of a building which was built already 12 years ago!

Towards the street, the new house appears moderate and pretends to belong to the old residential building on the neighbouring plot by using the same facade materials. Through the modern and restrained language of the form, the youth expresses its respect for the old. Towards the sunken garden, the new house appears two-storeyed and open.

Space and light

Silent on the outside, spatial freedom unfolds on the inside. The living floor is divided by vertical atriums that channel the skylight deep into the bathing floor below. Room-high glazing in the interior leads to the linking of different atmospheres. The inside and outside are connected by the continuous water level. Stones, water and wood are the defining elements.

Revision of the port in Hörnum | 2017

The new port of Hörnum at the southern tip of the North Sea Island presents itself as a unique cosmos that unites the whole of Sylt. The formative natural elements of the island come together here in the form of a structurally designed harbor landscape that can be experienced with the senses. The high-quality and diverse architecture gives the port a new identity that radiates far beyond the south of the island and becomes a unique experience for visitors.
