Wettbewerb Sohnstraße, Phase 2

Auf dem 1. Bild könnt ihr die beiden Schnitte sehen.
Die hohen Decken des bestehenden Gebäudes bieten die Möglichkeit, die neue Wohnnutzung auf kreative Art und Weise zu integrieren.
Mit der schwarzen Farbe wird das bestehende Gebäude dargestellt, die rote Farbe steht für die neuen Anbauten. 🔴⚫️

Auf dem 2. Bild ist der Lageplan zu sehen.
Im Maßstab des Stadtteils wird das neue Quartier in das bestehende Stadtbild integriert.
In einem kleineren Maßstab ist die Komposition der Gebäude so angeordnet, dass weitere kleinere grüne Gärten im menschlichen Maßstab entstehen. 🏡🌳

Das Piktogramm auf dem 3. Bild zeigt, welche Teile des bestehenden Gebäudes erhalten bleiben und welche Teile neu entstehen. 🏗🚧

In the 1st picture you can see the two sections.
The high ceilings of the existing building offer the possibility to integrate the new residential use in a creative way.
The black colour represents the existing building, the red colour stands for the new extensions.

The 2nd image shows the site plan.
At the scale of the district, the new neighbourhood is integrated into the existing cityscape.
On a smaller scale, the composition of the buildings is arranged to create more smaller green gardens on a human scale.

The pictogram on the 3rd picture shows which parts of the existing building will be retained and which parts will be newly created.

Wettbewerb Sohnstraße, Phase 2

Unser Entwurf, der zusammen mit entwickelt wurde, zielt darauf ab, ein einzigartiges, unverwechselbares und lebendiges Quartier zu schaffen, indem Teile der alten Bausubstanz erhalten bleiben, neue nachhaltige Gebäude entstehen und das bestehende Grünnetz bereichert wird. 🙌

In der Perspektive ist die sogenannte "Wilde Mitte" des neuen Quartiers zu sehen. Ein Ort, an dem die Menschen mit der Natur interagieren können.🌳

In der zweiten Januarhälfte wird der Gewinner bekannt gegeben. 🤞

Sohnstrasse competition, phase 2

Our proposal, developed together with LAND, aims to create a unique distinctive and lively neighbourhood by preserving parts of the old building, creating new sustainable buildings and enriching the existing green network.

In the perspective is shown the so called "Wild Middle" of the new quartier. A place for the people to interact with nature.

The winner will be announced in the second half of January. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Bestand

Jedes bestehende Bauwerk ist Energieträger und Materiallager mit seiner eigenen Geschichte. Umbauten sparen Energie, erzählen die Geschichte weiter und tragen so zum unverwechselbaren Charakter eines Ortes bei.

Hochausscheibe auftrennen zur Durchlüftung, Umbau oder niedrigerer Neubau ab dem 3.Obergeschoss.

Neuer Innenhof im ehemaligen Rechenzentrum. Zwei 2-geschossige Zeilen mit Wohnungen aufgesattelt. Laubengangerschließung auf den Ostseiten.

Atelierbauten und Bauteil Sohnstraße Rückbau 1.Obergeschoss, 3Wohngeschosse in Holzleichtbau mit kleinen Höfen aufgesattelt oder Öffnung mit Treppe zur Sohnstraße.

Das Sockelgeschoss bietet Platz für Tiefgarage und zusätzliche Nutzungen. Es erzeugt eine abwechslungsreiche Topografie und interessante Außenräume

EXISTING CONSTRUCTION

Every existing building is an energy source and material store with its own history. Conversions save energy, tell the story and thus contribute to the distinctive character of a place.

Create a gap in the existing block for ventilation, rebuild or build a lower building from the 3rd floor upwards.
New courtyard in the former computer centre. Two 2-storey rows of flats built on top. Arcade access on the east sides.
Atelier buildings and Sohnstraße building section Deconstruction of the 1st upper storey, 3 residential storeys in lightweight timber construction with small courtyards on top or opening with stairs to Sohnstraße.
The basement offers space for underground parking and additional uses. It creates a varied topography and interesting outdoor spaces

Mehr leben in der Stadt

Wir nehmen so viel wie Sinn macht vom Altbau mit, um mehr Leben in die Stadt zu bekommen.
Das Neue muss aber mehr können als das Alte.
In Zukunft brauchen wir:

Ausreichend Raum für Viele und kurze Wege.
Weniger versiegelte Fläche und mehr Natur.
Eine Architektur, deren Bauten aufeinander abgestimmt den öffentlichen Raum inszenieren und nicht sich selbst.

Auf dem Grundstück der ehemaligen Oberpostdirektion in Düsseldorf möchten wir das so verwirklichen

MORE LIFE IN THE CITY

We take as much as makes sense from the old building in order to bring more life into the city.
But the new must be able to do more than the old.
In the future we need:

Sufficient space for many and short distances.
Less sealed surface and more nature.
Architecture whose coordinated buildings stage the public space and not themselves.

We would like to realise this on the site of the former head post office in Düsseldorf in the following way

Heute möchten wir euch unsere Meinung dazu mitteilen, was man mit dem alten Gebäude an der Sohnstraße 45 machen könnte.

Städtebauliches Recycling ist nicht allein die Grundlage für einen ökologischen, Ressourcen schonenden Umbau der Stadt. Es ist auch die Möglichkeit einen einzigartigen und unverwechselbaren Ort zu schaffen.
Die nicht immer eindeutig an die neue Nutzung anpassbare vorhandene Struktur erzeugt eine Unschärfe, in der Freiräume entstehen können.
Es entsteht eine charakteristische Geschichte, die die Identität des Ortes bestimmt.
Oder um es frei mit Andreas Hofer ( ) zu sagen:

„Etwas was da ist, ist immer besser als nichts“ [1]

Today we would like to share our opinion with you, on what could be done with the old building at Sohnstraße 45.

Urban recycling is not only the basis for an ecological, resource-saving transformation of the city. It is also the opportunity to create a unique and distinctive place.
The existing structure, which cannot always be clearly adapted to the new use, creates a blur in which free spaces can emerge.
A characteristic story emerges that determines the identity of the place.
Or to put it loosely with Andreas Hofer:

"Something that is there is always better than nothing" [1]

Fassade:

Die Fassade ist als flächige, vollelementierte Fassade mit einem Modulmaß von 2,70m x 3,75m und einem Flächenverhältnis transparent/ nichttransparent von 60/ 40 konzipiert.
Neben der Nutzung von recyceltem Aluminium erfolgt durch das gewählte einschalige, flächige Fassadenkonzept eine Reduktion der erforderlichen Bauteile auf das Notwendige.

Alle Fassaden auf den Grundstücksgrenzen sind somit begrünt und mit einer großen Laibungstiefe ausgeführt.

Der dadurch entstandene schräge „Anschnitt“ zitiert mit gleichem Winkel die architektonisch dominanten Dachschrägen. Durch eine rhythmisch alternierende Verdrehung um je 90° entsteht ein ausgeprägtes Licht- und Schattenspiel, das die plastische Wirkung des Baukörpers unterstreicht.

Große Pflanzkübel erlauben es die Fassade intensiv zu begrünen. Die hochgedämmte Aluminium-Elementfassade bietet auch von Innen den Blick auf das Grün. Die Fassadenelemente ohne Grün ermöglichen mit Fensterflügeln und Glasbrüstung ausgestattet einen Schritt ins draußen“.

The façade is designed as a flat, full-element façade with a modular dimension of 2.70m x 3.75m and an area ratio of transparent/non-transparent of 60/40.
In addition to the use of recycled aluminium, the selected single-skin, flat façade concept reduces the number of components required to the bare minimum.

All façades on the property boundaries are thus greened and designed with a large reveal depth.

The resulting slanting "cut" quotes the architecturally dominant roof slopes with the same angle. A rhythmically alternating rotation of 90° each creates a distinctive play of light and shadow that underlines the sculptural effect of the building.

Large planters allow the façade to be intensively greened. The highly insulated aluminium element façade also offers a view of the greenery from the inside. The façade elements without greenery, equipped with window sashes and glass balustrades, make it possible to step outside.

Es gilt keine Angstabstände mehr zu bilden – wie z.B. der Altbau an dieser Stelle. Dem Neuen wird man sich daher unmittelbar nähern können.

Des Weiteren sollte der Neubau zu seinen Nachbarn in Kontakt treten.

Ziel ist es, eine bauliche Struktur und Proportionen zu bieten, die eine begonnene Geschichte der Nachbarbauten aufnimmt, fortschreibt und diese dann „auf die Spitze treibt“.
