We love exchanging ideas.
Last week, our colleagues Franziska, Tanja and Britta (left to right) met museum professionals, cultural practitioners and artists from across Africa in Berlin to explore new directions in contemporary exhibition design and how museums evolve from western institutions into more global, community-driven platforms.
The workshop was part of the delegation program “The German Museum Ecosystem in 2026: Current Trends and International Partnership Opportunities”, initiated by the and organized by the .
Together, we discussed key questions shaping museums today:
– Is the museum, as an object-based institution, still the right format for the stories we want to tell?
– How can museums create meaningful experiences for diverse audiences?
– How do we design exhibitions that remain sustainable, flexible and future-proof?
One main takeaway: Objects remain essential, but their relevance comes through the stories and lived realities they connect to. Museums increasingly need open, participatory and performative formats that engage local communities and contemporary life.
Thank you to all participants for the inspiring conversations and perspectives. We learned a lot!
