Hoping to rack your painting brains. Sash windows, old putty still in solid condition and secure, but rough on the edges where it meets the glass. Exterior caulk or epoxy filler for smoothing out the rough edge on existing putty? Instead of chipping it all out as it isn't loose, any suggestions appreciated, just looking to tidy up those rough edges prior to painting

First time patching drywall. My first try wasn't great, so I started over after getting some helpful feedback (and ignoring the haters 😅).

Do I need to sand first, or can I go straight to a second coat? I'm open to starting over again if needed. 🙏😅
