Vom Wettbewerbsentwurf zur gebauten Realität: Nach dem gewonnenen Kunst-am-Bau-Wettbewerb für das Polizeizentrum Neubrandenburg wird das Konzept Schritt für Schritt in Material, Maßstab und Oberfläche übersetzt.

Im Mittelpunkt steht der Satz „ALLE MACHT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS“. Die Sitzelemente machen dieses demokratische Prinzip im Außenraum nutzbar, lesbar und körperlich erfahrbar — als Schriftkörper, Sitzgelegenheit und Erinnerung an die Grundlage staatlicher Legitimation.

Für Neubrandenburg hat Beton eine eigene Geschichte. In einem neu errichteten Plattenwerk des Wohnungsbaukombinates Neubrandenburg begann 1972 die Produktion von Elementen der WBS 70; 1973 folgte die Montage des ersten Wohnhauses dieses Typs. Seriell gefertigte Betonelemente prägten damit das Bauen der Stadt.

Die Bemusterung knüpft daran an, verschiebt die Geschichte aber in einen anderen Maßstab: vom seriellen Bauelement zum präzise gestalteten Kunst-am-Bau-Element. Körnung, Farbigkeit, Zuschläge, Licht und Haptik werden vor Ort im Zusammenspiel mit dem Pflasterbelag geprüft. Wie verhält sich der Beton zum Boden? Wie präsent darf er sein? Wie wird aus Material Haltung?

From competition proposal to built reality: after winning the art-in-architecture competition for the Police Centre Neubrandenburg, the concept is being translated step by step into material, scale and surface.

At its centre is the phrase “ALL POWER EMANATES FROM THE PEOPLE”. The seating elements make this democratic principle usable, readable and physically tangible in the exterior space — as text objects, places to sit and reminders of the foundation of state authority.

Concrete also carries a specific history in Neubrandenburg. In 1972, a newly built precast concrete plant began producing elements for the WBS 70 housing system; in 1973, the first residential building of this type was assembled. Serial concrete elements shaped the city’s built environment.

The samples refer to this legacy, but shift it into another scale: from serial building element to carefully designed art-in-architecture object.

„ALLE MACHT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS“

Für das Polizeizentrum Neubrandenburg habe ich den Kunst-am-Bau-Wettbewerb gewonnen. Grundlage meines Entwurfs ist der Satz „ALLE MACHT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS“ — ein demokratisches Prinzip, das gerade an einem Ort staatlicher Autorität eine besondere Bedeutung erhält.

Die Arbeit übersetzt diesen Satz in den öffentlichen Raum: nicht als reine Inschrift, sondern als gebaute, nutzbare und erfahrbare Struktur. Die Sitzelemente verbinden Funktion, Schrift und Haltung. Sie schaffen Orte zum Sitzen, Warten und Begegnen — und erinnern zugleich daran, dass staatliches Handeln seine Legitimation nicht aus sich selbst bezieht, sondern vom Volk ausgeht.

Im Rahmen eines Ortstermins wurde nun auf der Baustelle das 1:1 Modell des letzten Sitzelements aufgestellt. Vor Ort lassen sich Proportion, Höhe, Oberfläche, Schatten und Präsenz unmittelbar prüfen. Der Entwurf wird damit nicht nur betrachtet, sondern räumlich erfahrbar — im direkten Zusammenhang mit Fassade, Eingangssituation und Außenraum.

“ALL POWER EMANATES FROM THE PEOPLE”

For the Police Centre Neubrandenburg, I won the art-in-architecture competition with a concept based on this sentence — a democratic principle that gains particular significance in the context of a place of state authority.

The work translates the idea into public space: not merely as an inscription, but as a built, usable and tangible structure. The seating elements combine function, text and attitude. They create places to sit, wait and meet — while recalling that state authority does not legitimize itself, but derives its power from the people.

During a site meeting, the 1:1 model of the final seating element was placed on the construction site. At full scale, proportion, height, surface, shadow and presence can now be tested directly on site.

The Mozartkugel is on view now in the exhibition “Beschworene Schönheit – Idol Mozart” at Kunstverein Würzburg.

Inside a clear snow globe, the idol appears as a miniature monument: Mozart, enclosed, shaken, collected, admired. The familiar souvenir becomes a stage for projection. A small bust, white flakes, a black base, a signature—everything seems playful at first, almost harmless. Yet the object asks a sharp question: What happens when cultural memory becomes merchandise?

The work belongs to MOZARTPLASTIKTRÄUME by Matthias Braun, a group of small plastic objects and readymades made for the exhibition. They approach the Mozart cult with humor, tenderness and a critical eye. Mozart is not presented as a distant genius only, but as an image that circulates through gifts, shelves, tourism, nostalgia and desire. The Mozartkugel can be activated by visitors: a tiny snowfall begins, and with it a fragile dream of fame, beauty and repetition.

Now on view as part of “Beschworene Schönheit – Idol Mozart,” the summer exhibition on the gallery ship ARTE NOAH, in cooperation with Mozartfest Würzburg.

Die Mozartkugel ist aktuell in der Ausstellung „Beschworene Schönheit – Idol Mozart“ im Kunstverein Würzburg zu sehen.

In einer klaren Schneekugel erscheint das Idol als Miniaturdenkmal: Mozart, eingeschlossen, geschüttelt, gesammelt, verehrt. Das vertraute Souvenir wird zur Bühne für Projektionen. Eine kleine Büste, weiße Flocken, ein schwarzer Sockel, eine Signatur—zunächst wirkt alles spielerisch, fast harmlos. Zugleich stellt das Objekt eine präzise Frage: Was geschieht, wenn kulturelle Erinnerung zur Ware wird?

Die Arbeit ist Teil von MOZARTPLASTIKTRÄUME von Matthias Braun, einer Serie kleiner Kunststoffobjekte und Readymades, die eigens für die Ausstellung ausgewählt wurden. Humorvoll, zärtlich und kritisch zeigt sie den Mozartkult als Gegenwart: als Bild, das durch Andenken, Regale, Tourismus, Nostalgie und Begehren zirkuliert. Die Mozartkugel kann von Besucher:innen aktiviert werden—für einen kurzen Schneefall über Ruhm, Schönheit und Wiederholung.

Today my artworks were delivered to Kunstverein Würzburg — right on board the gallery ship ARTE NOAH.

The works are part of the exhibition “Conjured Beauty – Idol Mozart”, opening on June 10, 2026. The opening reception starts at 7:00 p.m.

Heute sind meine Arbeiten beim Kunstverein Würzburg angekommen — direkt auf dem Galerieschiff ARTE NOAH.

Die Arbeiten sind Teil der Ausstellung „Beschworene Schönheit – Idol Mozart“, die am 10. Juni 2026 eröffnet. Die Vernissage findet um 19.00 h statt.

✨ Ich freue mich, Teil der Ausstellung „Beschworene Schönheit – Idol Mozart“ des Kunstvereins Würzburg in Kooperation mit dem Mozartfest Würzburg zu sein.

Die Ausstellung versammelt unterschiedliche künstlerische Positionen, die sich mit Schönheit, Verehrung, Erinnerung und der bis heute anhaltenden Faszination für die Figur Mozarts auseinandersetzen. In diesem spannenden Dialog zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart werden neue Perspektiven auf einen kulturellen Mythos eröffnet.

1:1 model of a seating element for the design „ALLE MACHT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS“ ("ALL POWER EMERGES FROM THE PEOPLE“). A linearly arranged group of seating elements is to be installed in the forecourt of the Neubrandenburg police center. The six elements of varying lengths are made of exposed concrete and feature a relief inscription on the front. In sequence, the seating blocks spell out the phrase "ALL POWER EMERGES FROM THE PEOPLE."

1:1 Modell für ein Sitzelement des Entwurfs „ALLE MACHT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS.“ Eine linear angeordnete Gruppe von Sitzelementen soll auf dem Vorplatz des Polizeizentrums Neubrandenburg installiert werden. Die sechs verschieden langen Elemente werden aus Sichtbeton gearbeitet und haben auf der Vorderseite ein Schriftrelief. In der Abfolge bilden die Sitzblöcke den Satz „ALLE MACHT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS.“

My new artwork OH MY GOD I will be on display at the upcoming summer exhibition "OMG - A Divine Confrontation" at the BBK Gallery in the Kulturspeicher Würzburg, coinciding with the 2026 Catholic Church Congress.

Faith, power, and excess. Hope, love, and mercy. Between creation and hubris, humanity searches for meaning—and for itself. What drives us? What keeps us in check? The exhibition "OMG - A Divine Confrontation" examines ancient myths and new interpretations. It questions power structures, plays with religious symbols, and opens spaces for doubt, anger, and confidence. An exhibition about searching for, doubting, and rediscovering the divine—between devotion and new beginnings.

Mein neues Kunstwerk OH MY GOD I ist bei der kommenden Sommer-Ausstellung zum kath. Kirchentag 2026 „OMG - eine göttliche Auseinandersetzung“ in der BBK-Galerie im Kulturspeicher Würzburg zu sehen.

Glaube, Macht und Maßlosigkeit. Hoffnung, Liebe und Barmherzigkeit. Zwischen Schöpfung und Selbstüberschätzung sucht der Mensch nach Sinn - und nach sich selbst. Was treibt ihn an? Was hält ihn in Schach? Die Ausstellung OMG - eine göttliche Auseinandersetzung blickt auf alte Mythen und neue Deutungen. Sie hinterfragt Machtstrukturen, spielt mit religiösen Symbolen und öffnet Räume für Zweifel, Zorn und Zuversicht. Eine Ausstellung über das Suchen, Zweifeln und Neuentdecken des Göttlichen - zwischen Andacht und Aufbruch.
