Here emerges the heart of Stavtrup: a new focal point for sport, culture, and community. The building is strategically situated within the landscape as a natural extension of existing pathways, green spaces, and the urban fabric. The site prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists, creating a seamless integration of movement, play, and leisure within a shared public realm.

The club’s division promotion introduces new functional requirements, necessitating an upgrade of Riisvangen Stadium.

The ambition is to transform functional necessities into a catalyst for architectural and landscape enhancement, accommodating both elite sport and everyday urban life. A green stadium, open to its surroundings and firmly rooted in its historical structure.

Riisvangen Stadium is a landscape-based sports facility with nearly 100 years of history.

A green, urban-adjacent landscape characterized by topographical articulation, existing trees and continuous public circulation along the perimeter of the pitch.

The project develops the site’s existing qualities through a careful and deliberate approach, ensuring culture, community, and everyday use remain central.

The project is envisioned as a layered and flexible structure combining office spaces, public plazas and a restaurant. Stacked office floors are supported by a central core, while the sloping terrain activates the ground level as a public interface and encourages interaction between users.

Sonnesgade 11 is a mixed-use building in Aarhus, housing our architectural studio. Located on a former industrial site adjacent to the railway, the project draws on its context and history to form a contemporary architectural expression.

Last week, we visited the Hyphen production facility to gain first-hand insight into the manufacturing process behind the Hyphen Board. The visit provided a deeper understanding of how biological growth, material composition and production techniques converge in the development of a regenerative board material.

Seeing the process at full scale offered valuable perspectives on the material’s potential for industrial application and its role within a future biogenic material ecosystem for the furniture and construction industries.

The Hyphen consists of 50% mycelium and 50% organic substrate made from local agricultural waste materials such as sawdust, rapeseed, flax and h**p. The material is 100% compostable and designed to emit 0 kg CO₂-eq per cubic metre.

The first phase of the development project targets applications within the furniture and interior industry, including tabletops and cabinets. The second phase explores the potential of using the Hyphen as a construction panel, thereby replacing CO₂-intensive materials in the building industry.

Hyphen is a Danish biotechnology and production company developing innovative regenerative materials for the furniture and building industries. Hyphen Board is a regenerative board material designed to replace conventional particle boards on a 1:1 basis, paving the way for a more sustainable furniture and construction industry.
In 2021, the global turnover of particle boards was approximately 150 billion DKK and is expected to grow to around 190 billion DKK by 2027. Conventional particle boards typically consist of 6–10% glue, emit approximately 16 kg CO₂-eq per cubic metre, and are not compostable.

With the ambition of transforming this large and established market and achieving a corresponding environmental impact, Hyphen is being developed as a biogenic construction material. Behind Hyphen are SLETH, Søren Jensen, Tscherning, and Ambiente, representing a wide span of competencies and deep insights into the building and furniture industries.

Kirstineborg is envisioned as a social garden village framed in the green landscape, where housing is grounded in the narrative of the farm and the town’s many communities. The landscape forms a coherent underlying base, enabling a denser urban fabric with compact plots that reinforce social interaction while balancing private and communal spaces.

The area’s pronounced topography is utilised to generate views and spatial variety through terraces of different typologies. Multiple scales of community emerge – from the intimate scale of the garden and the street to the broader collective experience of the neighbourhood and the town. Overall, the vision is to create an urban quarter at the intersection of nature and culture, where the compact garden village, the landscape, and the inherited qualities of the farm converge to form a distinct Kirstineborg identity.

With the Strategic Plan for Hjortshøj now formally approved, the work with the development of the Kirstineborg area can continue in line with this vision.

Landscape and community are central to the narrative of Hjortshøj and forms the basis for the future development of Kirstineborg and the surrounding area.

The Strategic Plan for Hjortshøj by Aarhus Municipality has now been formally approved and provides the framework and direction for the development of Hjortshøj. Hjortshøj is a town embedded in the surrounding landscape, framed by greenery and characterised by strong communities and close relations with your neighbours, a context that continues to shape the character and guiding principles in the development of Kirstineborg. The existing farm and long rows of apple trees mark the arrival to Hjortshøj – both from the light rail and along Mejlbyvej – and are retained as defining elements within the coherent green framework encapsulating the area.

The historic farm, orchards, and garden have a strong local connection and the development builds upon this existing heritage of cultivation, landscape, and everyday neighbour life which function as catalysts for the urban life and architectural expression. The interplay between private gardens, shared spaces, and informal meeting points creates conditions for conversations across hedges, collaborative activities, and a vibrant local environment firmly anchored in Hjortshøj.
