Kollision

Kollision Kollision is a Danish design office specializing in interactive communication, user participation an Admittedly, it isn’t easy.

WHO WE ARE
Kollision is a Danish design office founded in 2000 and is located in Aarhus, Denmark. We specialise in interactive communication, interaction design, dynamic media architecture, and citizen participation in architectural projects and urban development. WHAT WE DO
We are often challenged to describe what we do in one sentence. But here’s our best answer: We design. We believe design is

a way of thinking aimed at creating value for our clients – and their clients. Regardless of the scale or scope we can handle every aspect of the design process from strategy and conceptualisation to implementation and evaluation. MORE INFO
Have a look at our projects at www.kollision.dk if you want to know more about how we design. We also come from a background in research and believe in sharing our ideas – if you want to explore some of our work in greater detail all our publications are available for download. We have been quiet lately. And why?
Because we have been busy with the exhibition The City and Bay in Lighthouse. For nearly a year Team Kollision has worked on designing and producing the exhibition in collaboration with the client group. The exhibition is aiming at introducing visitors to the surrounding urban areas near Lighthouse and the historic development of the harbour as well as the nature in and around the bay.

PROJECT PARTNERS
Kollision , Mikkel Venge , Helene Dalgaard , Aarhus SeaRangers , CIPEX , Useeum , FORMIII

Kollision designed the physical exhibition and identity in collaboration with Venge Design and graphic designer, Helene Dalgaard. Content was created in partnership with Niels Krogh Nielsen and Mette Munkholm Svantemann from Aarhus SeaRangers. Kollision developed all digital platforms, interactive projections, and digital communication, based on photos and footage from various photographers and digital archives. Kollision controls all lighting through our MAP player across all three exhibition levels - exhibition, entrance and level 44. Exhibition hardware and infrastructure were planned in dialogue with hardware supplier CIPEX, which installed all the hardware. Development and construction were shaped through discussions with DLT, who produced and installed the physical exhibition parts. The audio app, Useeum, conveys and synchronises the narratives and was customised for the exhibition in collaboration with Useeum and Makeable. Pierre Greenway built the Lighthouse scale model and Jonas Hoejgaard Andersen designed the jellyfish lamp. FORMIII designed the restaurants and the interior design of the ground-floor. 3XN designed Lighthouse. The film is made by Allan Toft.

The exhibition Marble, at Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg is over, and so is the interactive version of Vertical Migration which allowed thousands of people to visit the shy but curious Siphonophore.

The Siphonophore has traveled from the UN building in New York to BLOX in Copenhagen, and from there to Bauhaus Museum in Dessau, the exhibition Plásmata: Bodies, Dreams and Data in Athens and with even more destinations to come...

We already miss the Siphonophore, but while we wait, we console ourselves with this film of our underwater friend presented at Kunsten.

Vertical Migration and Interspecies Assembly by SUPERFLEX for ART 2030 is generously supported by Ny Carlsbergfondet The Obel Family Foundation, Beckett Fonden and Statens Kunstfond. Vertical Migration was co-commissioned by ART 2030 and TBA21-Academy, and was developed in close collaboration with Kollision. Interspecies Assembly was designed in close collaboration with KWY.studio.

The presentation at Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, is supported by A.P. Møller Fonden and Spar Nord Fonden.

Today we celebrate the opening of the new UC SYD building in Kolding and that our dynamic light artwork The Three Corners of the World begins to illuminate the facade.

The building is designed by Cubo Arkitekter as a triangular six story structure with a total of 210 meters of facade. During 2021 and 2022 Kollision has developed a smooth integration of light sources into the building facade in collaboration with the general contractor C. C. Contractor. A lighting concept that illuminates the space between the main concrete construction and the perforated aluminum facade.

Taking departure in the triangular shape of the building the concept of The Three Corners of the World evolved. Kollision designed a simple concept controlled entirely by the force and direction of the wind pushing light towards the corners of the building . By installing powerful RGBW wash lights all the way around the top of the facade, a dynamic curtain of light occurs in the holes of the aluminum sheets.

The logic of the system tints the curtain of light from white in calm weather to dense full colors as wind speeds increase towards 10m/s. Each of the three corners has its own distinct color that comes into play when the direction of the wind pushes towards that particular corner leaving the other corners almost in darkness.

Tomorrow, the pedestrian and bicycle tunnel under the railway terrain in Herning will reopen. It has been closed due to a major renovation, including a new and comprehensive interactive lighting installation, FLOW, which we have made together with Design Smedien ApS, Lighting-Up, Martin Professional, and not least in dialogue with Herning Kommune. We are very proud of the result and look forward to seeing the citizens move through the tunnel again, and now surrounded by dynamic light that creates a myriad of colorful experiences.

Again Aarhus will be lit in green and with seven of our designs in a row!

Last year it was five ...

Aarhus Cathedral / Aarhus Domkirke
Department store Salling / Salling
Lightline at Bispetorv
Golden Gate Gellerup and
Urban Machine
..and this year we added our urban furnitures Light Spots at Rutebilstationen and the interactive installation Urban Platform at Telefontorvet.

Here by we help kickstarting Greenlight Aarhus. Greenlight is a large annual city event that focuses on sustainability and green solutions.

How cool is that when multiple installations speak the same language across the city and all with a good purpose.

Again this year, we have two lighting installations at the Copenhagen Light Festival - inside and outside of Industriens Hus.

OUTSIDE
We have decorated the HQs of The Confederation of Danish Industry' (Industriens Hus) 4,000 square meter facade with various lighting designs, which weave in and out of the giant diagonal grid in the facade.

INSIDE
In collaboration with Clever.dk and Volkswagen City Studio, we have developed the light sculpture 'In Light of Today' - an interactive installation visualizing the amount of renewable energy currently produced in Denmark. Show up at Vesterbrogade 1A, scan the QR code and induce some energy.
