A small fishermen house in Thy National Park
Thy
Life in nature is central here. The open views ensure a constant presence of wind, light, and
horizon. One must feel part of nature – not separated from it.
The coastal light transforms these houses throughout the day: in the morning, mist settles
softly on the facades; at noon, the sun casts sharp shadows; and in the evening, the
contours stand out against the horizon. The rhythm of nature and the architecture of the
houses are inseparably woven together in this landscape.

In Thy, the rugged West Jutland nature meets the cultural heritage of the coast. Here, the
small fishermen’s houses stand as simple, robust buildings, created to withstand wind, salt,
and the wear of time. Their low facades, compact forms, and use of wood and stone reflect
both function and community – built to house people who lived in close connection with the
sea.
To build a summer house in Thy is to build as a continuation of nature and the simple
architecture of the fishermen’s houses.
The inspiration lies in their robust forms, grounded materials, and ability to endure wind and
weather, while at the same time reflecting community and life by the sea. We interpret these
qualities through low, compact volumes, materials that patinate with time, and a close
relationship with light and landscape. In this way, the history of the place is carried forward in
a contemporary interpretation, where building and nature are not divided, but interwoven.
