Trailcenter Rytterknægten is now beautifully nestled among the trees in Almindingen forest on Bornholm — just as planned! Designed to blend gently with nature, the center invites you to explore the landscape intuitively and sparks curiosity about the forest around you.

Built with care and respect, every detail supports sustainable use of the forest — from upcycled materials like old tower steps turned into benches, to wooden nails that make recycling easier. The trailcenter is accessible and welcoming for everyone, especially families and kids, encouraging play, learning, and a lifelong love for nature.

Rediscovering early sketches from 2020!

It’s amazing to see how much of our project Vi mødes i det grønne has evolved, and how much has stayed the same. 🌿🌱
After plenty of workshops and brainstorm, the design adapted to reflect the needs of future users, new rules, and even nature itself. Some shapes took a whole new direction, but the original vision held strong.
It’s been a long road, and fun to see how these ideas have developed over time!✨️✨️

Last week, MATTERS had the pleasure of celebrating the opening of 's new showroom at the 🌟 We gave a presentation to a great audience, sharing insights from our work on the transformation of Valhøj School.

Our talk highlighted
• creating flexible learning environments
• the impact of materiality and color
• the upcycling of existing furniture to bring fresh energy to educational spaces. 🌈✨

Meet us at Skoleledernes Årsmøde 2024 🤝

This Thursday, MATTERS will be in the Annual meeting of School leaders by Skolelederforeningen, in Odense Congress Center, where together with , we will be presenting the FLEX furniture series. ✨ ✨
This series, designed by MATTERS and produced by Ultima K, is thoughtfully created with in mind. Flex furniture are tailored for children with special needs, offering adaptable solutions that allow them to have their own space while feeling included within the classroom environment.

We look forward to sharing to school leaders around Denmark, how Flex furniture can help schools support all students comfortably and effectively. 🫂

What MATTERS?

As a part of the values that shape the design processes and decisions of our studio, we share

At Matters, we know that playfulness is more than just fun—it's a source of creativity. 🎨 It’s how we break out of the ordinary and imagine spaces that inspire and engage.

In our project Havehuset, an extension to Rødovre school, we brought this philosophy to life with unexpected details. The blue colours framing the window, create an illusion of a 3d effect, playfully making it look like its sticking out of the wall. It’s a reminder that learning environments can be both functional and full of wonder, sparking curiosity at every turn!

Valhøj School -Facade 🪵🪵

The old west facade has been revitalized with a new, dynamic design. The new facade carefully respects the original horizontal and vertical lines, creating a seamless blend with the existing architecture. ✨️
Crafted from unsorted pine, its natural imperfections add character while opening the school to the surrounding landscape. Integrated directly into the facade is a ventilation system that, along with improved natural light, enhances the indoor environment.
This redesign also creates spaces that encourage outdoor learning and reflection, showcasing how older buildings can be transformed with both aesthetics and function in mind. 👍

VENTILEN - Brøndbyøster school 🤸‍♂️

The facade is designed with large windows to bring in great natural light and to create a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors, letting nature in 🌿 The ash wood louvers and green-toned steel frames blend beautifully with the surroundings, aging gracefully over time without maintenance. Indoors, the wooden panels maintain their natural color, enhancing acoustics in the spacious living areas.
