I have now completed my research trip around Lake Victoria which is the world’s second largest freshwater lake bordering Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. The region has some of the best potentials for a sustainable development on the African continent, wish will face a population growth of 2.5 bio people during this century. My goal is to create an exhibition about the potentials and challenges on the African continent with a special focus on the Lake Victoria region.
The trip has taken well over a month, and I am now in the process of selecting and categorising the approx. 3500 photos that I have taken along the way.
It has been a fantastic experience and what stands out most clearly in my memory are the many fantastic people I have met. Therefore, my first post is a big thank you to all the people I have met, as well as the Danish Art Foundation's Architecture Committee who have contributed to the financing of the trip and the Danish embassies in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania who have helped me with networks and good connections to numerous organisations.
On the trip I have visited projects that are supported by organisations such as the United Nations, The World Bank, WWF, Worlds Forests, Danish Church Aid, and the Danish embassies, all highlighting positive avenues for the future development within farming, forestry, fisheries, urban development, environmental protection etc.
I have met with members of parliament, city managers, heads of urban planning, economists, architects, professors, NGO´s, minority groups, religious leaders, schools for orphans, slum dwellers, a plastic recycling project, a football academy, research institutions as well as local businesses such as architecture studios, coffee farms, vanilla farms, a hunting company, gold mines and fish factories.
Travelling by public transport, I have also met a lot of amazing people who have given me a much better understanding of challenges, opportunities as well as hopes and dreams for the future among the local population.
I am still a bit exhausted, trying to digest all the impressions and organise the best pictures. In the following weeks I will share selected photos from the trip on Facebook and Instagram and maybe a few on LinkedIn.
