Henning Larsen is one of the most progressive and professional architectural practices in the world. Originating from the Scandinavian architectural tradition – aesthetically, socially and intellectually, we aim to create vibrant, sustainable buildings that transcend their physical bounds and provide lasting value to the user, culture and society of which they are part. We were founded in 1959 by

architect Henning Larsen, whose name we proudly carry today. We create architecture with curiosity and artistic audacity that rests on a foundation of knowledge and attention to detail. Our projects are generous and give people the opportunity to experience the unexpected. We work together in a non-hierarchical community. Copenhagen is our base, but our projects are born in harmony with the world around us. With offices in New York, Munich, Hong Kong, Riyadh, Oslo and the Faroe Islands, we work globally, but always with a local presence. We challenge, shape and change the physical environment, from architecture to planning and design – creating good social spaces for human connection and activity. Our expertise lies in identity-creating cultural buildings, educational institutions, headquarters and cities. Our approach is scientific and evidence-based. We master all aspects of complex construction processes with resolute professionalism. We take responsibility and never compromise on quality. The field we work in is defined by people, daylight and space. Our solutions are living architecture designed for people. We bring daylight into all of our buildings, because daylight gives rise to life and joy. As architects, space is our foundation – and we design it in an ever-evolving process that pushes the boundaries of what is possible. Instagram:

Salling Roofgarden er lavet i samarbejde med Salling Group and Salling Fondene, A. Enggaard A/S og Ramboll. Kunstværk af Jeppe Hein.

There's no planet B. We only have one Earth. 🌍

Today is and it's a good opportunity to reflect on the transformative action that is required by governments, cities, businesses, and civil society to combat climate change and restore our planet to a state that can endure the many generations to come.

How do we create a basis for well-working neighborhoods? And can we improve community cohesion in existing neighbourhoods?

To examine these questions, we've teamed up with students from the The Royal Academy School of Architecture and Massachusetts Institute of Technology UIA 2023 World Congress in Copenhagen.

"...living is a universal thing, but the way we live and use our neighborhood varies from place to place. We are excited to work with the students to gain more knowledge on how we can strengthen the social connection and the advantages of living in the city,” says Ofri Earon, Head of Living at Henning Larsen.

Together with the students we will work on the project titled ‘Re-neighbouring’ until summer 2023, and the projects will be shown in a street exhibition during the congress.

With its timber structure already underway, we're incredibly happy to disclose the full design for World of Volvo!

Totalling 22,000 m²/236,805 ft², World of Volvo will unite the brands of Volvo Group and Volvo Cars in a new experience center in Gothenburg, sharing the history, tradition, and future of the famed Swedish brand.

World of Volvo is designed around the Swedish concept of “Allemansrätten”, denoting the fundamental right that all citizens share to nature: the right to roam freely on any piece of land regardless of ownership, showing consideration for nature and for others.

The circular form of World of Volvo, encompassing both care of nature and consideration for people, encourages visitors to make their own experience both inside and outside.

“Our goal was to give form to something very essential to the Swedish spirit. World of Volvo’s circular form, the timber materiality, its integration with the landscape, and, fundamentally, its openness – these things are all parts of a core collective identity,” says Martin Stenberg Ringnér, Associate Design Director, Sweden.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2023 and open to visitors in 2024.

Light can move us deeply in a matter of just seconds. Such moments often stay in our memories forever.

As a boy, Henning Larsen was enchanted by the way that light filled a village church in Western Jutland. Later, he visited a historic farm building at the Open Air Museum, part of the National Museum of Denmark. The skylight in the farm made an enormous impression on him. The way the light reflected off the whitewashed brick hearth formed the basis of his later work – a masterful blend of direct and reflected daylight.

Henning Larsen’s work with daylight was never monotone; it always explored the transitions between light and shadow, darkness and clarity. It became living architecture for living people. His major work, Gentofte Library, has been described as a library that shines with kindness. It is designed for people, not just musty books. At the core of his approach was the principle that architecture has an obligation to the real world and real people.

"We have a resource scarcity issue looming on the horizon, and a biodiversity, pollution and climate change crises that have already arrived."

Since the postindustrial shift, waterfronts in many western cities have transformed into popular targets for urban regeneration. But how much have these spaces actually been designed to benefit the people who call these places home?

It´s no surprise that cities with rising populations set the focus on the industrial ruins, but can we create a long-lasting framework for neighborhoods to move beyond the tourist-attractions?

Here's four waterfront transformations to get inspired by: https://hnglr.sn/3KmpouT

Amongst a total of 118 applicants, we're excited to be a part of the development of one of Scandinavia's most scenic waterfronts, Grønlikaia in Oslo.

To meet the ambitions to create one of the most sustainable waterfront developments in the world, we have put together a team of local and international advisers with experience from harbourfronts across Oslo, Toronto, Copenhagen and Sydney.

The full team consists of Henning Larsen, Code Arkitektur, Ramboll and landscape architects Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl.

From a total of 118 proposals, our team in Norway has been selected to deliver proposals to Grønlikaia, centrally located on the harbourfront of Oslo.
