Along the Gulf’s pearling coast — Tarout, Darin, Dammam — homes were raised from sea coral stone, bound in mud, and dressed in white gypsum to beat the heat. Mashrabiya screens, shaded arcades and open courtyards did the cooling long before machines. Forts like Tarout Castle still guard the shoreline. Novi carries this coastal wisdom into every space we craft today.

On the Farasan Islands, pearl-trade fortunes were poured into the walls. Coral-stone houses were wrapped in carved gypsum so fine it looks like lace, lit through colored-glass “kamariyyat” above the doors. Inside, carved gypsum patterns and painted wooden doors soften the strength. Qasr Marid and Qasr Barzan show a heritage built to protect and to impress. Novi designs with that same duality — resilient structure, refined detail.

Najdi architecture is the desert’s masterclass in living with heat. Thick mud-brick walls hold the cool, triangular “furjat” openings that pull in light and air, and stepped gypsum crenellations crown every roof. At-Turaif in Diriyah still shows it best. Taif builds from the mountains it sits on — rose-toned granite and dark basalt, framed with local juniper wood. Grand arches, carved cornices, and latticework rawashin give its palaces their poise, while thick stone walls hold the cool of the highland air. In Qatif, the coast itself became architecture — walls of sea “farush” stone, arches and columns carved in gypsum, and shaded courtyards built to breathe against the heat and humidity.
