International Competition for the new Piazza Giosuè Carducci
Conegliano, 2024

Green Corridor

This pavement incorporates slopes directing rainwater towards tree pits, which will manage runoff using Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). The tree pits will serve as permeable zones, allowing for the preservation of existing trees, the planting of new ones, and the inclusion of an appropriate shrub layer.

Viale Giosuè Carducci has the potential to become a green corridor, featuring large trees and shrubs that mitigate urban heat islands during warmer months by providing shade, capturing CO₂ from the air, and giving the street the character of an urban linear park.

Mobility

The proposal suggests reducing private vehicle presence, maintaining only a single-lane, one-way road alongside a two-way bike lane connecting to the existing one on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.

Were designated loading and unloading areas, available strictly during the morning and midday to supply existing and future establishments, while parking areas were removed.

In front of the train station, the pavement will also be levelled to ensure continuity with the intervention, requiring the addition of access ramps from the side roads. The same approach will be taken on Via G. Mazzini, where the Viale Giosuè Carducci pavement will seamlessly connect with the staircase on the opposite side of the road.

It is proposed that restaurants, ice cream shop, and bar furniture be standardized, including sun protection systems, to create a cohesive and orderly appearance.

International Competition for the new Piazza Giosuè Carducci
Conegliano, 2024

The requalification of Giosuè Carducci Road into a new Piazza in Conegliano, Italy, presents a unique opportunity to harmonize heritage, environment, and urban liveability. As a city deeply rooted in history, Conegliano’s public spaces must reflect both its cultural heritage and its commitment to a sustainable and green future.

Viale Giosuè Carducci has a strong pedestrian-oriented character, featuring established restaurants and commercial activity. The proposal aims to implement a continuous pavement without curbs, creating a shared surface where pedestrians and cyclists are the main urban protagonists.
The planned material is natural stone, like what was used on Via G. Mazzini, arranged in a way that enhances the perspective towards both the staircase and the train station.

PORT TARRAGONA IDEAS COMPETITION
Tarragona, 2022

They are designed to ensure that pedestrians have absolute freedom of movement in an inclusive leisure environment, have biodiversity, and control solar radiation through different shadows.
The integration of intervention with space sports, the sea, open space, and the green future of the area to be shaped will demonstrate citizen-centered development as the central part of the place's urban transformation.
The proposal represents an innovative solution to transform the Port area and its surroundings, responding to the challenges posed by the TPA, in a new ample free space, shaded, green, and a producer of clean energy, which prioritizes citizens' uses of walking and enjoyment, practically eliminating the presence of the car on the surface.
The intervention provides precise itineraries for pedestrians and cyclists between Serrallo and Miracle Beach on the one hand and between the old town of Tarragona, Plaça dels Carros, and the breakwater on the other. At the junction of these two axes, the new park and the rest are planned at strategically located points, constituting the space of centrality in the Port.

SANFONA PARK
São Paulo-SP, BR, 2011-2014

The area is a high-risk zone due to repeated occupation and re-occupation while featuring a steep 40-meter slope, connecting both longitudinal and transversal to Grotão's community.
The site is addressed to become a new park to serve as an urban connector, enhancing the flow of residents toward the proposed metro station.
The new public space serves as both a park and a public square, incorporating old streets and alleys into the design, reclaiming urban space on a human scale, and encouraging community interactions where residents can place chairs in front of their homes to relax and engage with their neighbors.
A series of ramps with a 6% slope provides access to higher elevations, seamlessly integrating the neighborhood's existing urban fabric and adapting to its natural contours. This network of ramps, reassembling the structure of an accordion, led to the park being named "Sanfona Park" (Accordion Park).

RENOVA SP ÁGUA VERMELHA 2 –URBAN AND LANDSCAPE PROJECT
São Paulo-SP, BR, 2011-2018

An area of approximately 400 ha² in the east side of São Paulo city, at the sub-basins of the Água Vermelha and Lageado streams. Its occupation by precarious settlements began in 1980’s decade. Currently, the perimeter is composed by 23 settlements: 10 favelas with 5.444 houses, and 9 allotments with 10.853 houses and 4 urban cores with 676 houses.
The project intends to reveal the positive and potential impacts of having a river close to home, since the community turned its backs to the river. Stimulating the interpretation of the dynamics that occur and the participation of the community in environmental preservation initiatives are key in the project success.
The project creates a linear park, enhancing the green corridors and the relation between this ecosystem and the existing urban fabric. The multiplicity of given services in the community consolidates these civic, living and cultural exchange axes, at the same time it allows the people to recognize the delicate environmental system that surround it.
The landscape has an essential role in these “surgical operations”, as a pacification instrument of the urban fabric, creating connectivity and providing the environmental quality to a part of the city that has a lack of identity.

RENOVA SP PIRAJUSSARA 5 –URBAN AND LANDSCAPE PROJECT
São Paulo-SP, BR, 2011-2019

The Linear Park enhances the green corridors and their relation with residents, as the Civic axis of housing consolidates social relations and cultural exchange in newly promoted spaces.
By incorporating a "green pathway", optimized pedestrian spaces defined their priority over cars, and new plans of Mobility promoted the redefinition of street sections to new public spaces.
The project highlighted the Diniz River as a structural axis of the intervention, with the requalification of its margins and recovering the landscape potential, so far, hidden. Techniques of bioengineering were applied to the presented principles, unifying the fundamental elements to achieve a good result: technique and landscape.
Through a deep study of the hydraulic dynamics and the geological realities, natural system actions on the margins of the rivers were proposed to create a coexistence between citizens and nature.

RENOVA SP PIRAJUSSARA 5 –
URBAN AND LANDSCAPE PROJECT
São Paulo-SP, BR, 2011-2019

The occupation of this area began in the 1970s and intensified at the end of this decade. There were 16 settlements known to be regularized: 3 allotments, 11 "favelas", and 2 urban cores.
The proposal aims to develop a transition between the city occupied by humans and the systems of natural dynamics. The main concept was to propose a void for areas that have a lack of open spaces.
Through strategies of open urban fabric, necessary aeration could be achieved, at the same time, new centralities were created, with services and facilities contributing to the neighborhood identity, and new housing was promoted for the relocated residents consolidating the area.
Transforming the urban fabric with meticulous design promoted connectivity and environmental quality necessary for the living landscape.

REQUALIFICATION OF PUERTA PUCHENA
Almeria, 2005
1st PRIZE IDEAS COMPETITION

Puerta Purchena the city center of Almería, as its name indicates, was one of the medieval city doors. A square that hosts converging pathways that enters through the old city. Beyond its doors started the first expansion of Almería.
In the year of 2004, Puerta Purchena was a place where left pedestrians in second plan. Underground parking, intersections and driveways configurated the site back there.
The aim for the proposal was to incorporate free spaces of Manual Pérez Garcia square and San Sebastián square and minimize space for cars, increasing pedestrian areas. A Yellow Marbel Pavement was proposed to enhance the heritage buildings in the surroundings. The historical font of Cañillo was recovered and incorporated as a flow organizer to pedestrians and automobiles.
The traffic reorganization was thoroughly redesigned keeping all planned connections and slowing down the traffic to promote a safe place to pedestrians.

ARENA BSB COMPETITION - SPORTS AND LEISURE COMPLEX
Brasília-DF,Brazil (2019)
Honorable Mention

The vegetation associated with this microclimate is fundamentally the ciliary type, typical of the Cerrado (savanna), achieving better inertia and thermal comfort. In contrast, the roofs of the commercial buildings represent the landscapes of the Cerrado plateau meadows as the grass-dominated “empty field” (clean field), or the “full fields” (dirty fields) with low and spaced shrubs on the predominantly red and poor in nutrients land.
As a reference landscape of the area, the Cerrado is contextualized by the different biomes that represent its phytophysiognomies. The seasonal changes, which are well marked, allow for significant differences in the landscape perception according to winter drought or summer rainy season.
From the division of the land into two large basins, the contrast of this ecosystem is represented by the choice of preferential native species, associated with water bodies: the Northern Basin reproducing a context more associated with perennial waters (sports park and boulevard) and Southern Basin (parking lots, gymnasium area, stadium, event square, facade of the monumental axis) depicting the driest areas, but prepared to receive water during rainy periods.

ARENA BSB COMPETITION - SPORTS AND LEISURE COMPLEX
Brasília - DF, Brazil (2019)
Honorable Mention

The proposal made for the competition starts from the recognition of the exceptionality of the Mané Garrincha National Stadium, in scale and spatial power, and seeks to emphasize its condition as symbolic protagonist of the ensemble. In this sense, we sought to work the new building elements by presenting itself to the city as a landscape. The conjunction articulates the metropolitan scale of the monumental axis with the everyday scale.
The new programs planned to organize two sectors of different natures: The southern sector linked to the monumental / metropolitan scale welcomes extraordinary events and occasional large audiences. As the northern sector dialogues with the local scale and receives small events, daily activities, and regulars.
The key feature of the project is a Boulevard that consists of a spatial organization system conceived more as landscape than as a building, and whose urban presence evokes images ranging from cracks of eroded dry soil to Helios Oiticica's meta-schemes (Brazilian plastic artist). This system makes it possible to solve, in a clearly and articulate way, all commercial and service. In the center of the Boulevard is proposed an artificial stream with water of continuous flow that moves by gravity of the natural fall of the ground.

RESTORATION OF THE “MESÓN GITANO” SURROUNDINGS
Almería, 2003

The main goal of the project is the consolidation of the surroundings of MesónGitano as tool of promotion of Alcazaba in the tourist development of the city. There were defined three sectors by their unique features:

1.San Diago de Alcalá Street: as the central axis gathering restaurants, retail and other services. This street is converted into a green corridor giving the pedestrians the priority of use.

2. Mesón Gitano Sector: consists of the hill that gives access to the Mesón Gitano’s terrace. In this sector, it can be found old caves that accommodated the Mesón Gitano. The structural problems of earth contention were solved in a rational and economical way, assuring the safety of all users, and converting into the most emblematic living space of the intervention.

3. Park Ramón Castilla Sector: in this section, the accessibility and connections between other neighborhoods was the main priority. The intervention consisted in the the restoration of the pathways, stairs, walls, vegetation and urban furnitures.
