International Competition for the new Piazza Giosuè Carducci
Conegliano, 2024
Green Corridor
This pavement incorporates slopes directing rainwater towards tree pits, which will manage runoff using Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). The tree pits will serve as permeable zones, allowing for the preservation of existing trees, the planting of new ones, and the inclusion of an appropriate shrub layer.
Viale Giosuè Carducci has the potential to become a green corridor, featuring large trees and shrubs that mitigate urban heat islands during warmer months by providing shade, capturing CO₂ from the air, and giving the street the character of an urban linear park.
Mobility
The proposal suggests reducing private vehicle presence, maintaining only a single-lane, one-way road alongside a two-way bike lane connecting to the existing one on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.
Were designated loading and unloading areas, available strictly during the morning and midday to supply existing and future establishments, while parking areas were removed.
In front of the train station, the pavement will also be levelled to ensure continuity with the intervention, requiring the addition of access ramps from the side roads. The same approach will be taken on Via G. Mazzini, where the Viale Giosuè Carducci pavement will seamlessly connect with the staircase on the opposite side of the road.
It is proposed that restaurants, ice cream shop, and bar furniture be standardized, including sun protection systems, to create a cohesive and orderly appearance.
