Mum and I have just walked through our front doors after 3 nights away in Murcia. We had a fabulous time and the weather was so warm whilst we were there (33 degrees during the day), that I was able to wear my newly knit summer Ranunculus (pattern by Midori Hirose) that literally came off the blocking mats the day before we went on our hols. It’s the 4th one I have made, this time in a cotton yarn and it was the perfect attire for the lovely summer temperatures in Murcia. I love this pattern (you can probably tell 😁).
If you’re interested, I shall be posting a few photos of our trip on my other page, The Good Life In Spain, very soon. I highly recommend visiting Murcia, just maybe not in July and August 🥵.

What mum wants, mum gets 😁, especially when it’s Mother’s Day. A scarf like mine, except in a brighter colour. This was the brightest colour I had in stash so this one it was. I think the colour looks fab on her.
They’re great little scarves and perfect for spring, the cotton/linen/viscose blend keeps the chill off without being too warm. We celebrated (a week late I might add) with a Thai meal in Moraira, followed by a sorbet by the port. Bliss 😊

I’ve recently celebrated my 50th and my fabulous pressie from my wonderful hubbie was a holiday in France. We had the times of our lives and I couldn’t have asked for a better present. We stayed in Carcassonne for one night whilst we were there and thankfully it was cool enough for me to eventually get to wear my CatKnit jumper. What better place to get a few pics of me wearing it for the first time, and it was actually my Birthday that day 😁😁. By the way, I will soon be sharing a vast amount of photos from our holiday on my other page, The Good Life In Spain, just in case you’re interested 😊

I was beginning to wonder if the day would ever arrive when I’d cast off the last stitch of my CatKnit Sweater. I even thought of putting it on hold till after the summer as I probably won’t get a chance to wear it until then anyway. But I was so desperate to see it finished that I persevered. And today it is eventually being blocked. At last!!!!! Once it’s dry and ready to wear I’ll post some photos of me wearing it, even if it is only for a few seconds, 26 degrees centigrade is not the best for alpaca/wool blend jumpers 😁.

On another note, a friend of mine (thank you Vandra 😊🥰) recently gifted me a Tijeras Mágicas voucher as a thank you for something I had helped her with. I’d be hard pressed to think of a better pressie she could have given me 😊. I decided that I wanted to put it towards something nice. I mostly use Drops yarn, a great Norwegian budget brand that helps to keep this hobby a relatively cheap affair. But I wanted to try something different.
Tijeras Mágicas have a huuuuuge selection of yarn and it took me a few hours to decide on what I wanted. I settled on BC Garn Big Bio Balance, a blend of organic wool and organic cotton, which will be perfect for a Minimi Knit V neck sweater that I have had in my Ravelry library for ages and I hadn’t settled on the yarn I wanted to use for it.
I also bought a new yarn from Lang Yarns called Oceania, it is a blend of cotton and Seacell, a biodegradable fibre made from seaweed and cellulose. It’s a very pretty yellow and is extremely soft, it will be perfect for a lightweight summer top, just got to decide which pattern to knit with it now.

And yet more gifts. Very soon it will be my 50th birthday (😳😳😳😳). I had my eye on a set of Tulip fine gauge bamboo interchangeable needles that range from sizes 2 to 3 mm. I only have these sizes in metal needles and sometimes they can be just a tad too slippery for plant based yarns. Anyway, my mum said she would buy them for me for my Birthday and they arrived the other day (thank you mum 😊🥰). I now have every single size and type of needle I need. For now, at least 😂😂.

Today’s outfit cost (just a bit of fun 😁):
-EDC by Esprit black denim skirt from the Jávea charity shop: 5€
-United Colours of Benetton Merino wool bright pink cardigan, also from the Jávea charity shop: 5€
-Jane Shilton blue leather handbag from the Calpe cat charity shop: 3€ (bargain!)
-Old Converse boots: too old to remember price!
-118g of Drops Belle yarn to make the scarf: 4,50€
-Being able to wear your own hand knits after various evenings of knitting, ripping back when you’re missing a yarn-over 10 rows below, blocking and impatiently waiting for them to dry so you can try them on: PRICELESS 😁😁

The pattern for the scarf is a free pattern on Ravelry called An Italian Summer Scarf by An Italian Knitter, it’s perfectly suited for the Drops Belle yarn. I love it 🥰. My mum has decided she would like one in a brighter colour so watch this space 😊

On another note, I have now started the second sleeve of the CatKnit Jumper by Andrea Rangel. I’m posting a couple of photos below, one where you can only see the sleeve that is finished, that way you can sort of imagine what the finished item will look like 😁. I knit the neckline after I finished the first sleeve, the idea of doing the second sleeve as soon as I’d finished the first was too much to bear. And at least that way, when the second sleeve is finished the jumper will be too (apart from blocking it). Can’t wait, although I don’t think a wool/alpaca blend jumper is the right attire for late spring, at least not where I live 😁.

I have also cast on another jumper, the Cloudy Day Sweater by SuviKnits, which has been in my Ravelry Library for yonks. I’m using another Drops yarn for it, this time their Cotton Merino in the colour sea green, a very pretty colour perfect for spring. Whether I’ll finish it in time is another matter but it might get a bit of use on cooler summer evenings, and in the autumn of course 😊

Another pressie for my mum, seeing as it was her Birthday last Wednesday. I always like to make her something that’s slightly nicer than what I used to make her when I was a wee lass at school! It was nearly always something ghastly that was supposed to hang from the car mirror, but thankfully never ended up there. Like most mums, I assume, she still has those lovely trinkets in a box somewhere out of sight, which I’m rather pleased about 😁.

Anyway, I’ve wanted to make her a macrame mirror for as long as I remember, she’s always commented on how much she’s liked the ones I have sold so I thought it was the perfect time to eventually make one for her. My initial idea was to knit her a top of some sort, but seeing as I’m still getting through the CatKnit jumper (I’m now on the first sleeve, thank goodness, only a year or so to go now 🤣), I needed something that could be made in less time. I chose a neutralish colour that she would be able to hang up wherever she liked, or put in a drawer of choice 😂😂. Right, now back to my knitting 🧶🥰

A gorgeous crocheted Easter bunny for my mum 😊🐰. The pattern is by Simply Made By Erin, a great blog with lots of free crochet patterns. I have made many a design by her, including Xmas decs, baskets, bags, etc.
The yarn was brought back for me by a friend who was visiting the UK a couple of years ago. She found 5 balls on offer (it’s a discontinued yarn) and asked me if I wanted her to get it for me. Obviously I said yes 😁. I have been waiting for the perfect pattern and I have most definitely found it. It’s a bu**er to work with but the result is so worth it 😊. The tail is crocheted with faux fur yarn, also a bit of a pain to work with but nothing like the main yarn. The flowers and leaves are crocheted with cotton yarn. The nose is embroidered, also with cotton yarn, and the safety eyes are actually safety noses because the eyes I had weren’t big enough 😁. But who cares, mum loves it 😻

Cats cats and more cats 😺. An order for some swirly cat micro-crochet earrings in very pretty purple and pink. This order came from a lady who had seen the same earrings on another lady who had bought them nearly two years ago. This made me very happy for two reasons. The lady that bought them from me originally is still wearing them and then someone saw her and wanted a pair too. Well, actually, it made me happy for three reasons, the third being that I adore crocheting these gorgeous cats 😊😻.
Not leaving the cat theme just yet, there’s been a bit more progress on my CatKnit jumper. I steamed blocked the cats after doing a few rounds of plain stockinette and it really made a difference to the finished fabric. Sine then I’ve done about 60 more rounds of stockinette and I think I’ve got about the same amount to do before I start on the ribbing. Then there’s the sleeves 🤦🏻‍♀️. But I’ll get there eventually 😊

I thought the day would never come when the colourwork part of the CatKnit jumper would be finished!! But after what has felt like an eternity, that day has eventually arrived 😁. I’m hoping the stockinette section will go a tad quicker.
I have no more WIPs to show unfortunately. Whilst working on the cat jumper I began a couple of other sweaters which ended up being frogged due to either the sizing or me getting completely confused with the pattern. Even after starting over three times, it still didn’t make sense. I’m blaming the pattern, it was free after all 😂.
On another note, my mum was given a load of knitting/crochet mags and patterns for me. It has been great fun looking through them all. There are some retro ones from the 80’s which are rather amusing, roller skates and knee pads included 😁. Brings back memories 😊

Seeing as I can’t knit my CatKnit sweater at night on the sofa cause my yarns seem to get all in a tangle, I needed something else to work on (I can’t sit there doing nothing 😁). I had a spot of yarn left from the first Ranunculus I made and decided to make a lightweight, lace pattern scarf with it. I thought it was mistake free until I cast off, but that’s rarely the case. On closer inspection I noticed that half way through one of the lace repeats there was a row of purls proudly disgracing my pretty scarf. But there’s no way that I was going to rip back and fix it so it will stay this way forever more 😁. I once heard someone say that every mistake in knitting or crocheting is a part of your soul, which always makes me feel better when I can’t be bothered to frog back to sort it out!!
Anyway, only 19 rows to go now on the Colourwork of the CatKnit jumper before I start on the 7 years worth of plain old stockinette in green. Well, at least I’ll be able to work on it at night then with just one ball of yarn so that should narrow it down to 3 or 4 years 😂.
