Black and white cabinetry is hard to miss and easy to love, as evidenced by this spectacular Kitchen Mania Kitchen. The new space needed to complement the rest of the renovated 1950s Remuera home, while also fulfilling the client’s desire for a modern, sleek and stylish design with integrated appliances and handle-less cabinetry. Expertly merging traditional and modern elements, the kitchen is endowed with an abundance of prep space and storage solutions.
A long window splashback takes advantage of the lush green backyard, providing an optical break from the black-and-white colour palette with a refreshing strip of green at eye level. Stunning Calacatta Gold benchtops feature in the main kitchen and the scullery, prompting cohesiveness and a feeling of grandeur.
The size of the kitchen in relation to the scullery was carefully considered, as was the use of dark and light cabinetry to maximise impact and the proportion of the island with regard to seating and boxed-end. This
thorough planning has secured a highly functional space conducive to entertaining. Likewise, the length and height of the splashback window and the proportion of the tall cabinetry to the wall units and bench were brainstormed and perfected so that the owners could live and work in a kitchen with all the right measurements. Black, white and more than “a bit
of all right”
