Mikou Design Studio Paris Mikou Design Studio is a place of creation and experimentation in architecture and its inter-disciplinary cross-fertilisation.

Mikou Design Studio was created in 2005 by Selma Mikou and Salwa Mikou, after many years of collaboration with international architecture agencies, in particular Renzo Piano and Jean Nouvel on projects on large private and public buildings, residences, offices and important installations on public areas within the framework of re-qualification of urban and harbour planning. We design in a continuo

us workshop spirit with a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, graphic artists, scenographers and town planners from very different cultural backgrounds. Every project is an opportunity for challenging and redefining the meaning of a brief, a function in an urban, social and human context, in order to invent new ways of living, places of sharing and gathering which are more sensitive and sensual stimulating an emotional response. Distancing us from preconceptions of form and function gives us the freedom to create original solutions which enhance the fourth dimension of space - the dimension of sensitive spatial experience, the interaction between people and their environment. Mikou Design Studio is currently involved in a large number of projects throughout France, Germany, Brazil and Morocco, with a focus on cultural and educational buildings, housing and offices.

Le site historique Balsan.

C’est en 1751 que Louis XV concède à Jean Vaillé le droit de créer la Manufacture Royale du Parc de Châteauroux, dans les alentours du château à Châteauroux, ville pionnière de l’industrie drapière. Les premiers bâtiments sont construits en 1752, de par leur caractère novateur, ils confortent une puissante tradition textile locale qui perdure jusqu’à nos jours. À partir de 1856, le nom Balsan devient associé à la manufacture et est synonyme d’innovation et d’ambition. Le site comprend 60.000 m² d’ateliers et d’entrepôts et rassemble dans son parc des bâtiments administratifs, une usine de production de gaz, des châteaux d’eaux, une cité ouvrière de 100 habitations, un dispensaire et des écoles. Le quartier Balsan est aujourd’hui un écoquartier de la commune, avec des bâtiments historiques remarquables restaurés et un rapport au paysage particulier en bordure de la vallée de l’Indre. Le centre aquatique Balsaneo de Chateauroux s’inscrit dans ce site inédit et s’inspire de l’esprit industriel et avant-gardiste de l’époque.

The Balsan historical site

In 1751, Louis XV granted Jean Vaillé the right to create the Manufacture Royale du Parc de Châteauroux, in the vicinity of the castle in Châteauroux, a pioneer town in the cloth industry. The first buildings were constructed in 1752, and because of their innovative character, they reinforced a powerful local textile tradition that continues to this day. From 1856, the name Balsan became associated with the factory and was synonymous with innovation and ambition. The site includes 60,000 square meters of workshops and warehouses and includes administrative buildings, a gas production plant, water towers, a workers’ housing estate of 100 homes, a dispensary and schools. The Balsan district is today an eco-district of the municipality, with remarkable restored historical buildings and a particular relationship with the landscape on the edge of the Indre valley.
