A collection of tables, shelving systems, and furnishing objects crafted from a composite material combining aluminum honeycomb and epoxy resin.
On the occasion of the 2026 Milan Design Week, Marco Lavit presents HEXA exclusively for Nilufar Gallery.
The project stems from an experimental collaboration developed with Azimut Design: the encounter between design vision and advanced material research led to the creation of a new composite material. The process combines two inherently opposite materials — the “fossilization” of a technical element, both highly resistant and unexpectedly fragile, made possible through the material density of resin.
Aluminum honeycomb, engineered to withstand compression, proves surprisingly fragile when handled. The collaboration between the two materials therefore becomes essential: the former provides a structural texture, enabling the production of panels with milled edges; the latter stabilizes the structure, giving durability and tactile solidity to an otherwise delicate material.
The collection emerges from the juxtaposition and interlocking of horizontal and vertical planes, as if from an immediate and instinctive constructive gesture.
The composite panels, precisely calibrated and tapered along the edges, intensify the chromatic nuances of the resin, lending depth to the color. In dialogue with the metallic reflections of the aluminum honeycomb, the material acquires a dynamic, vibrating quality, capable of producing an almost liquid effect while retaining architectural rigor.
