Between mystery and revelation.

Since its founding in 628, Sensoji Temple has been shaped by centuries of history and prayer. On the occasion of its 1,400th anniversary in 2028, Sensoji is constructing a treasure museum east of the main hall.

Religious treasures are meant to be concealed, yet their revelation has long sustained faith. This project seeks to give architectural form to the relationship between these two qualities—mystery and openness.
The building takes the form of a calm, horizontal volume, quietly elevated above the ground. Beneath it, a space unfolds where people gather, pause, and where rituals and performances take place.

A horizontal volume rises above the ground, offering space for gatherings and festivals. A perimeter corridor acts as a stage connecting everyday life with ritual.

Sea of Time - TOHOKU Project

After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, artist Tatsuo Miyajima launched Sea of Time – TOHOKU as a collaborative project to honor the victims and carry forward the memory of the disaster.

The project will take architectural form in Tomioka, on a cliff overlooking the sea, conceived as a permanent home dedicated to Miyajima’s installation. A great circular roof gently encloses the site, as though held by the earth. Here, visitors face Miyajima’s work while looking out to the horizon, contemplating life, numbers, and the unseen current of time. Numbers that emerge and fade without end come to embody the enduring continuity of life and the infinite flow of time.

More than a museum, this place becomes a vessel for memory and renewal for the future of Tohoku. Completion is planned for 2027.

As visitors approach the shore, the sound of waves grows stronger, blending with the wind, sky, and rhythm of the water to create a subtle, immersive soundscape.

More than a museum, this place becomes a vessel for memory and renewal for the future of Tohoku. Completion is planned for 2027.

Once a military runway cutting through the forest of Tartu, Estonia.

Rather than erasing this “line of memory”, the building was designed to extend it into the future.
Standing along the former runway, the architecture opens toward the city, and toward what lies ahead.
It is not only a place for preserving the past, but one that connects memory to the present and the future.

This project is currently on view at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art as part of « Architecture Connecting II: Memoryscapes », through May 17, 2026.

The Estonian National Museum carries the collective memory of the Estonian people.

Once, a Soviet military runway cut through the forest. On this trace of memory, the building is gently placed.

This project is currently on view at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art as part of “Architecture Connecting II: Memoryscapes”, through May 17, 2026.
Experience a way of thinking and creating that arises from memory—not as something from the past, but as a force shaping the future.

From brewery to warehouse, and now to a museum of contemporary art.

Originally built in 1907 as a sake and cider brewery using local Hirosaki apples, the building found new life after its original role ended, transforming into a museum that carries memory forward.
Old and new bricks, wood and metal, black coal-tar walls and white painted surfaces—their contrasts reveal the layers of time.

This project is currently on view at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art as part of Architecture Connecting II: Memoryscapes, through May 17, 2026. For further information, please visit the link in our profil.

The site where Japan’s first cider was brewed using Hirosaki apples.

After losing its original function, the building was reborn as a contemporary art museum that carries memory forward.
The cider-gold roof shifts with the changing light, adding a new layer of time to the landscape of Hirosaki.

This project is currently on view at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art as part of « Architecture Connecting II: Memoryscapes », through May 17, 2026.
