How to design the right restaurant for the best sandwich in the world? First, one should try the sandwich. And we did. The first bite felt like an explosion of flavour and crunchiness. Therefore, the crunchiness had to be the starting point. Like we felt when we first bit the sandwich, our design breaks the space into two clearly identifiable halves... before & after, brand & product, yin and yang sort of thing. On one side, the design marks the entrance and the front of the house with simple geometry, minimalistic detailing whilst, at the opposite end, the kitchen and bar, are celebrated by an explosion of flaming pink alabaster stone (sustainably reproduced with high performance laminates).

After the C19 pandemic North Sailing performed an ambitious repositioning grouping under the same umbrella the heritage of yacht sailing with North Sailing Brand along with the brave new world of action sports with Mystic and North Kiteboarding. Our job as retail designers was to capture the convergence of the various ocean outdoor sports in a single flagship store located in one of the most iconic harbours in the world for sail racing: SaintTrôpez in France. Foiling technology proved to be the most apt metaphor to demonstrate the convergence of sailing and kite boarding / wind foiling. Both in sailing and in action sports, foiling has radically changed the rules of the game literally taking those sports onto another level, a level in which hulls and boards alike do not even touch the surface of the sea but rather they hover -or fly - above it. Our design is thus inspired by hulls, foil boards, windsurfing sails and more. The grammar of forms resulting from our nautical design research is then transformed into a characteristic set of fixtures bespoke to North Sails and adaptable to best display the various collections and lines.
