Check out the single stem in the back. This is what’s left of a flower that popped up in January. It died off but new ones have risen up in its place. Nature is resilient and, in times like these, we must learn to be too.

What an unsettling time due to global tensions 😳 To that end, I just released a video about food security and about what frost-tolerant vegetables and herbs can be started when it’s still cold. Learning and growing are 2 ways I resist the stress that surrounds us! What about you? What’s your secret weapon?

Don’t be fooled by the sun in the photo! January weather can drive us to strange behavior. This single anemone decided she was going to bravely enter the world during a week in which we’ve had the coldest temperatures in Toulouse that I remember. Today we have sun and are up to 7°C, but she has been standing through the -7 plus winds we had earlier this week. For reference, we usually see these pop up during late February warm spells, but she was not to be deterred! How are you handling January?

Strange weekend. We were supposed to be in Morocco for a loved one’s wedding, but alas that’s RyanAir for you 🥲 On a more positive note, I got the last of my “summer” carrots harvested. They weren’t perfect but considering they’ve been in the ground for a year, they were pretty good overall! They are super crisp and as sweet as the ones we pulled in June. How long have you left carrots in the ground before? Curious how long they’ll keep like that.

Cranberry bread with baked Camembert cheese was on the menu at this weekend’s Christmas cooking party. It was an afternoon of laughter and learning hosted by the lovely and 💚 Hope to make it for the Easter hot cross buns sequel in March!

A couple of summer days here in October, and I have my biggest tomato harvest of the year! Curious how long into fall are you normally able to harvest tomatoes where you live? I normally get a few smallish tomatoes this time of year, but never this size or this many.

Happy Tomato Tuesday 🍅 It’s been a strange summer. From heat waves and droughts to bathroom renovations and changes within the family, it’s been A LOT. I haven’t posted much, haven’t even been online very often, but the garden is still there giving small tomatoes but big doses of sanity when I seek it. I hope you’re all doing well and finding moments of gratitude in your summer gardens 💛

Busy day in the garden! Can you guess what I’ve been up to besides harvesting? If not, you’ll probably know once you see the second photo. For some reason, I can never keep my gloves on. I feel clumsy and out of touch when gardening with gloves, even if my hands prefer it. Tomato plant stains take some scrubbing to get off! Do you garden with or without gloves most of the time?

I do love spring harvests! It always amazes me to see how crops planted in the fall mature and are finally ready to be harvested. On the other hand, it’s also been really interesting to experiment this year with lettuce. I have one plant that I’ve harvested 3 times over the past few months, although the lettuce harvested here was broadcast seeded in February. Lots of fresh salads on the horizon! What arr your favorite spring harvests?

Happy Flower Friday! I couldn’t resist this sunset and crocus combo. It feels like spring is saying hello 💛 Of course, freezing temps are arriving again next week, but I’ll take the nice days as they come!
