At Glebelands in Tongue, Sutherland, our eight-home development for WildLand is starting to take shape.

Set on a steeply sloping site, the homes are carefully arranged to respond to the topography, with the structure clearly expressed in the architecture. Lower levels are embedded into the landscape, formed in waterproof concrete and locally sourced stone. Above, cross-laminated timber creates warm, exposed interiors, while untreated timber cladding connects the buildings to their natural setting.

The main contractor, O'Brien Construction, is currently focused on the four homes below the new access road, where foundations, slabs and retaining structures are underway. Great care is being taken to protect the site’s existing stone walls and mature trees.

We look forward to sharing more photos of progress over the summer, with completion anticipated in autumn 2027.

The Dualchas house in Achnacloich is featured in the June edition of Scottish Field.

Emma Leask discusses the ideas behind the design with homeowners and Dualchas architects Neil and Laura Stephen and how they balance their lives between work, 3 children, and a menagerie of animals, including pigs, horses, dogs, sheep and a rather beautiful Norwegian Forest cat.

There are few places as special as Achnachloich bay. A shallow beach, expansive skies and the full Cullin ridge viewed across Loch a' Ghlinne.
