DESIGN FREEZE❄️🧊
We’re excited to announce that the wrap-around extension featured in our October recap has now completed its concept design stage, and planning has officially been submitted. This detached Victorian sandstone villa, currently subdivided into two flats, will soon be restored back into a single family home 🏠. The property requires some well-deserved TLC, including roof and chimney repairs, full door and window replacement, and restoration of the original stonework 🧱. As part of the reinstatement works, the staircase will be returned to the rear of the house and a traditional stained-glass window will be installed. 🪟
Our clients’ brief for the extension focuses on creating an open plan kitchen, living and dining space that maintains a strong visual connection to the rear garden. Varying heights between the volume housing the kitchen/dining space and the lounge area allow for clerestory windows, which flood these spaces with natural light. Roof lanterns and a flat roof light are also proposed to further enhance daylight throughout the new extension ☀. An indoor/outdoor feature chimney connects the two volumes, adding both visual interest and architectural cohesion 🔥. Within the kitchen, larder units cleverly conceal access to the side extension, which accommodates a pantry, extra storage, a shower room and a utility room.
For the exterior, our clients have opted for a sharp and striking palette that contrasts old and new by pairing fresh buff sandstone with black doors, windows, extension roofing and roof lanterns ⚡. Sustainability is also a key priority, with the design incorporating solar panels and an air source heat pump to support more energy-efficient living. ✅
