Turfhills Farm Shop Opening Day

At the weekend we attended the grand opening of our clients Winton Butchers’ Turfhill store

This is both a deli / farm shop and a production facility for Winton's pies and associated products. As well as their own produce, the deli stocks other local food and drink suppliers.

We provided architectural services from concept design through to on-site support during construction on this project

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. It's located adjacent to Caulders Garden Centre, next to Kinross Services.

We wish them every success for the future.

Where has January gone? Following the Christmas period, it’s been a busy return to work as we’ve been catching up on site inspections and getting back out on the ground 🏗️. The month has been a great mix of celebrating our people, starting new projects, and checking in on work already on site.

We kicked things off by celebrating a big milestone in the office - Iain, our office administrator, turning 60 years young 🎉🥳. A well-deserved celebration and a great way to start the month.

We've had a few initial site visits for upcoming projects 🚧. These early visits are a key part of the process, helping set the foundations for projects we’re excited to share more on soon 👀.

We were delighted to be featured in the January issue of Homes & Interiors Scotland magazine 📰✨. Have you seen it yet? Take a look at our post from 7th January for more insight into the feature.

Plenty of site progress inspections across a wide range of sectors - including retail, life sciences, community and domestic projects 🔬🛍🏢🏘️. Always great to see work developing on site and to catch up with clients and project teams.

A candid moment from our staff leadership workshop 💬. If you missed it, see our post from last week for more on what we got up to during the session.

A full and fast-paced start to the year - and we’re looking forward to what’s next 🚀.

Yesterday’s leadership workshop gave us the chance to pause and reflect on how we think, communicate, and lead - both individually and as a team 🤝. Using the Insights Discovery profile, we dug into our different working styles and quickly noticed how closely aligned we are. The pie chart told a pretty clear story: we’re a team of greens and blues 🟢🔵, with very similar slices across the board 🥧📊.

Green energy is all about empathy, collaboration, and putting people first 🫀, while blue energy leans into thoughtful analysis, clarity, and attention to detail 🧠. Put the two together and it says a lot about how we like to work - considered, collaborative, and grounded in both people and process. Different experiences, shared mindset, and a strong base for how we lead the practice forward 🚀.

DESIGN FREEZE❄️🧊

We’re excited to announce that the wrap-around extension featured in our October recap has now completed its concept design stage, and planning has officially been submitted. This detached Victorian sandstone villa, currently subdivided into two flats, will soon be restored back into a single family home 🏠. The property requires some well-deserved TLC, including roof and chimney repairs, full door and window replacement, and restoration of the original stonework 🧱. As part of the reinstatement works, the staircase will be returned to the rear of the house and a traditional stained-glass window will be installed. 🪟

Our clients’ brief for the extension focuses on creating an open plan kitchen, living and dining space that maintains a strong visual connection to the rear garden. Varying heights between the volume housing the kitchen/dining space and the lounge area allow for clerestory windows, which flood these spaces with natural light. Roof lanterns and a flat roof light are also proposed to further enhance daylight throughout the new extension ☀. An indoor/outdoor feature chimney connects the two volumes, adding both visual interest and architectural cohesion 🔥. Within the kitchen, larder units cleverly conceal access to the side extension, which accommodates a pantry, extra storage, a shower room and a utility room.

For the exterior, our clients have opted for a sharp and striking palette that contrasts old and new by pairing fresh buff sandstone with black doors, windows, extension roofing and roof lanterns ⚡. Sustainability is also a key priority, with the design incorporating solar panels and an air source heat pump to support more energy-efficient living. ✅
