Sometimes a south facing window or door can be difficult to live with. The heat, the cold, privacy and light control are all considerations. Shutters tick a lot, if not all of those boxes. A shield from the midday sun, trapping a layer of air to keep the heat in during the colder days, tilting louvres to allow light but retain privacy. Sometimes you want the whole window aperture open and mounting the shutters at the front of the window reveals gives this option. They can fold back to the wall nice and flush.
