🐛 BOX CATERPILLAR ALERT – CHECK YOUR BUXUS NOW!
If your box plants are looking a little worse for wear, with eaten leaves, webbing, browning foliage, or thinning patches, there’s a good chance you’ve got Box Caterpillar.
🔍 What to look for:
• Fine webbing throughout the plant
• Leaves that have been chewed or stripped bare
• Green and yellow striped caterpillars hidden deep inside the plant
• Eggs and chrysalis tucked away amongst the foliage
⚠️ Act immediately!
If you find Box Caterpillar:
✅ Move the affected plant away from any other box plants if possible
✅ Remove all visible caterpillars by hand
✅ Remove any eggs, chrysalis and webbing
✅ Give the plant a light trim if it’s salvageable
✅ Thoroughly hose out the inside of the plant to flush out any hidden pests
✅ Apply a suitable Box Caterpillar treatment
🌿 As a precaution, treat all nearby box plants too, even if they aren’t showing signs of damage yet.
💡 Top Tip: Prevention is always better than cure. We recommend treating Buxus plants every two weeks during the growing season with a Box Caterpillar repellent or preventative treatment, which can easily be found online.
The earlier you catch them, the better the chance of saving your beautiful box plants! 🌿🐛
