…. and the goalpost frame is up on a small single storey side and rear extension to a semi-detached family home in Hale village.

The design includes a fully glazed ‘crittall-style’ gable end with double doors to link the house to the garden.

kitchens are undoubtedly the heart of the home and are, more often than not, the starting point for the extensions I design.

Ensuring the space is sufficient for the family is paramount and the foundation for achieving the kitchen they need and then it’s over to the kitchen specialists to work their magic.

I often get asked about timber cladding on a project and how best to use this beautiful natural material.

Well, there are loads of ways to set it out but the real key is to ensure the detailing is spot on.

a quick visit to a project completed a few years ago as the client has just told me that they are ready to proceed with phase 2.

phase 1 involved a double hip to gable and box dormer loft conversion to create 2-beds and 1 shower room. a dormer to the front elevation was required to extend the existing staircase.

phase 2 involves a single storey side and front extension to create a new front porch and integrated garage along with a home gym.

popped round earlier today to check on progress of this whole house remodel / refurb in South Manchester.

On the ground floor, we added 5m2 alongside the garage to create a boot room, and remodelled the kitchen / living end of the house to improve the flow.

On the first floor, we added 40m2 and removed all internal walls and started again to increase the accommodation from a 4 bed 2 bath (1 en suite) to a 5 bed 3 bath (2 en suite).

This also allowed us to create a double storey entrance hall.

Externally we changed the ground floor facing brick and renewed the flat roofs of the single storey outriggers and we rendered the first floor.

We also repositioned and replaced all the windows and doors, and renewed the roof.

Shout out to Brendan Finn for a fantastic build, and for their structural expertise.

really pleased to have just received listed building consent to convert this 230 year old grade II listed church into a family home.

the ground floor with the lower ceiling had already been divided into meeting rooms, kitchen and community hall so this was the logical floor for the bedrooms and bathrooms.

the first floor, with a 4m high decorated ceiling, and tall stained glass windows, was converted to an open-plan living space.

a planning requirement was to retain some of the pews and a highly ornate historic pulpit.

special thanks must go to Clare Booth of for her assistance in getting this across the line.
