Earlier this year, Tree Technique was instructed by Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) under our tree maintenance contract to carry out fruit tree pruning on public open spaces across the borough. These orchards are owned and maintained by TVBC for the use of the public and wildlife and can be found in Andover, Eastleigh and Romsey, a fantastic resource.
π¦ We called Marwell Wildlife near Wi******er to find out if they were interested in our cuttings to use as fodder for their animals. They sent a team on a number of our pruning days to collect apple and pear cuttings; the animals eat the foliage and chew the bark, as this provides minerals, as well as eating the fruit. The keepers were excited to receive this, as were the giraffes, okapi and hippopotamus, as it introduced something a bit different and variation in diet. Interestingly, the animals also enjoy willow, which we were also able to provide on one site where it had overgrown the fruit trees.
We would like to thank both and for making this an enjoyable, mutually beneficial project to work on.
