October Lawn recommendations

-Mow as regularly as the weather allows- mow on a longer setting right the way through to spring

-Apply an autumn feed to encourage root development - please message me if you’d like me to do this for you.

-Regular spiking - aeration allows air, nutrients and water to the roots allowing them develop and make the plants more able to cope with the winter ahead.

-Spray with Ferrous Sulphate- deters moss and eliminates other problems too- greens the lawn and generally makes it more healthy.

Please contact me if you’d like me to do any of the above for you 👍🏻

Recovery treatments for those burnt summer lawns

- Mow on a high setting until spring to allow new growth to grow and thicken your lawn- please contact me for a price if you want me to mow for you.

- classic autumn recovery treatments should be followed to help your lawn rejuvenate and repair

1. Scarify your lawn to clear dead matter from the lawn and prune the grass plants laterally- both encourage growth and the lawn to thicken out.
2. Apply an autumn feed in September/October and a winter feed in December/January. Each providing the lawn with the required boosts of the right nutrients to keep the lawn looking it’s best over the winter. DO NOT apply a general fertiliser at this time.
3. Spike your lawn as often as possible to allow the flow of air, nutrients and water to the roots- this is where we want our lawns to be as strong as possible to help them survive the winter.

-in addition, overseed bare patches and apply a wetting agent for extremely dry lawns

Please contact MJW Lawn Care for a quote on any of the above treatments 👍🏻

This was a tired looking lawn I treated 4 weeks ago.
Suffering slightly from drought conditions and builders had taken their toll.

✅ Scarified- removes dead material and prunes the grass laterally encouraging thicker growth

✅ Fertiliser applied- encourages healthy growth

✅ Aeration- allows nutrients water and air to the roots

✅ Watered only 2-3 times per week since

This is the result that took only 10 days to materialise.

If you want similar treatments to help your lawn recover from the drought please message me 👍🏻

*SEASONAL UPDATE*

Please see below for current lawn care advice and guidance.
If you need any further explanation pls ask.

I HAVE SEVERAL MOWING SLOTS AVAILABLE
please contact me ASAP if you’d like me to mow for you. I charge £12, £15 or £18.

Please also read the following to see what you should be doing with your lawn at this time of year 👍🏻😁

Fertiliser
Every lawn needs fertiliser - every time your lawn is mowed, nutrients (and moisture) are taken from it.
If you haven’t had fertiliser applied yet this year or in the last 2-3 months then now is certainly the time. Please contact me in advance to book these treatments in over the coming weeks. There is a current threat of Red Thread infestation and fertiliser is the best prevention and cure as it happens. Red thread aside though- every lawn needs to be fertilised in order for it to remain healthy.

Weedkiller
If you’re lucky enough to have only a few weeds, use a ready mixed spot fertiliser spray.
If you have many weeds covering several areas in your lawn then apply a soluble weedkiller over the entire lawn. Please contact me to book this treatment in- it is cheap and I have plenty in stock 👍🏻

Aeration
I am happy to aerate your lawn if conditions are right- perfect to be done with fertiliser- pls ask for a price if you’re interested. Don’t hesitate to ask if you want me to explain the benefits. Basically, you can’t aerate enough!

Watering
Water your lawn 2-3 times per week to avoid scorching/browning. DO NOT water in the evening as this can encourage Red Thread.

Mowing
THE most important treatment of all!! Keep your mower clean and blade sharp- and mow at least every 10-14 days. I can’t stress enough how mowing weekly can improve the thickness of your lawn. In hot conditions as we’re experiencing now mow high to preserve moisture and encourage longer root growth… if you’re a dog owner or have a lawn that pools in wet conditions mowing longer helps this also. Please contact me if you want me to mow for you 👍🏻

Red Thread Alert

Current conditions are perfect for red thread to start attacking our lawns.

It’s a very common fungal disease that causes the grass leaves to die. It presents with a blotchy appearance and tiny pink threads in the affected areas.

As with most things, prevention is better than having to cure the problem.

Dos ✅
✅ Regular mowing
✅ Apply a good spring/summer fertiliser
✅ Aerate the lawn to improve airflow

Don’ts ❌
❌ don’t water on an evening
❌ don’t scarify or rake a lawn with red thread

Regular mowing and the application of a good fertiliser not only help prevent the disease from attacking your lawn but also provide a suitable cure if you’re unlucky enough to have a dose on your lawn.

Please message for any advice or help 👍🏻

This lawn is still a work in progress as it needs a thorough application of weedkiller to the whole lawn and the recent seeding will thicken out somewhat.
But it benefits massively from 9 months of proper lawn care from regular cutting, aeration and seasonal fertilisers. Most recently it has undergone moss killer treatments, scarification and overseeding. It already looks much better but the best is yet to come 👌🏻
