Five unique features of this wildlife-focussed garden:

1. The pond sits right next to the house with stepping stones to cross into the rest of the garden, creating a connection with the water from the very start of the garden

2. The meandering paths behind the pond area are laid with local Horsham stone, interplanted with babies tears, creeping thyme and Erigeron

3. We kept the bees! A thriving bee colony wasn’t touched during the whole design and build process

4. The pond is beached at both ends creating easy access points for pond life and other creatures popping in for a drink

5. The planting design is full of native plants and areas that benefit a variety of wildlife, like hiding places around the water’s edge

Why we chose Hakonechloa macra for the slopes and banks of this garden:

💚 it provides verdant greens in the summer
🧡 and golden hues into the winter
🪏 it’s low maintenance with no mowing required
🌾 it creates movement in the breeze

Aspects of this garden design were inspired by the surrounding landscape of the South Downs - these banks of lush Hakonechloa macra evoke the colours and movement of the wheat fields that are a core feature of the Downland’s identity

Backing onto the sandy beaches of the Witterings coastline, this is a garden of two distinct areas - an immaculate striped lawn garden with colourful flower beds and statement sculptural benches, and a thriving kitchen garden with bespoke fruit cages and greenhouse.

Situated in the town centre of Arundel, this beautiful home required a garden that fitted in its historical setting with a stylish modern twist. This was achieved by adding sculptural elements through classical style relief plaques on the wall, and creating a ‘tree avenue’ look with clipped fruitless Mulberry parasol trees. A paved dining area sits in the heart of the garden, surrounded by Iris ‘Jane Phillips’, Hakonechloa and Agapanthus.

🥂 Congratulations to all the medal winners at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, especially our dear friend .ishihara who won Silver-Gilt for his garden “Tokonoma Garden - Sanumaya no Niwa”. 🙌

The year we won Gold 🥇 and Best In Show 🥇 for the show garden ‘Microcosm’ was the year we met Kaz, and so began our long standing friendship and working collaborations. It’s wonderful to see him still creating and achieving - bravo Kaz! 👏 🥂
