Time to dust the cobwebs off this page again!

Here's a job completed last week in Canterbury. Out with the old 1930s concrete paths and rather ugly steps, replaced with some new block paved paths, a new set of brick steps and a new front doorstep. It seemed like the perfect time to replace the rotten old fence too.

to some groundworks completed for a single storey extension in Ashford.

Before any foundations could be dug there was a Southern Water sewer to be diverted, a tricky job in itself. The foundations were poured using a concrete pump supplied by Just Pump It LTD with concrete from Stewart Brothers Concrete Ltd. All foundations were inspected and signed off by Building Control prior to concrete.

After this came some substructure brickwork, a bit of drainage for the kitchen sink and then finally insulation and a concrete floor slab, ready for the bricklayer.

1st October and it's raining! Patio season is definitely coming to an end 🌧️

Here's a patio I laid earlier in the year for a customer in Challock. It's Raj blend Indian Sandstone with a circle feature and matching sandstone sett borders, supplied by Stone

There was also a new land drain installed and connected to the existing soakaway, a vitally important but often overlooked part of any new patio or paved area.

to this job completed last year near Dover. Working to the customer's own design on this one, works involved two separate patio areas with a set of stepping stones connecting the two areas.

The customer chose porcelain for the main patio with matching wall copings and steps, laid with a contrasting border. All of the borders, wall copings and steps were cut and bullnosed on site, time consuming but definitely worthwhile!

At the top of the garden is a sandstone circle with matching sett borders and some miniature planters, perfect to catch the sun in the morning.

Finally some Dutch clay pavers and black limestone stepping stones link the two patios, finished with a decorative gravel,a real mix of different materials and styles on this one.

Back to basics with a simple gravel driveway, completed recently in Challock for a repeat customer. Managed to include a few nice details like the sandstone sett edging and herringbone pattern step. Brickwork was tricky during some awful wet weather but got there in the end. New fencing and made to measure gate supplied by AVS Fencing, Timber & Landscaping Supplies. Another happy customer!

Contrary to popular belief I haven't retired 🤣 although it would be nice....

Here's a to the summer when I was lucky enough to carry out some works at the fantastic Cobham Hall, assisted by my good pal RJ.

The works involved rebuilding this set of yorkstone steps that had sadly become a real hazard, as well as upgrading the pathway leading to them.

Thanks to Phoenix Mini Plant Hire Ltd for the machine and dumper hire, and Otford Builders Merchants LTD for supplying the materials.

Job completed, all done in keeping with the surroundings, happy customer and one much safer set of steps.

The finished job in Challock. Both the paving and setts are Fossil Mint sandstone, supplied by London Stone. These have been laid in a linear pattern with traditional sand & cement pointing. There's some beautiful colours and natural texture to the slabs, and I think the circle features and random patches of setts really break the area up nicely. From being left in a state by the housebuilder to this, a low maintenance space with some real character. Another happy customer, back to this job later in the year for the front driveway 👍🏻

This week's job in sunny Challock, with a visit from the muckaway fairy 🧚‍♂️

A full load of very stoney muck dug out, stockpiled and taken away, followed by 20 tonnes of type 1 sub base and 7 packs of sandstone slabs from London Stone

No mess, no damage to the grass, all swept up and left clean and tidy, with thanks to A.Rand Plant Hire for the micro digger and track barrow.

Now comes the fun part of the job, laying the paving...watch this space 😎
