A matching or complementary stair covering can completely tie the whole look together. I fit laminate and LVT on stairs as well as floors, and the transformation is always brilliant — especially when you're going from tired old carpet to a clean, modern finish. I know what you're thinking — 'how hard can it be to lay a floor?' 😄 And honestly, for a simple room with no obstacles, a confident DIYer can do a decent job. But here's where it gets tricky: doorframes, awkward angles, pipework, stairs, transitions between rooms, getting the expansion gaps right, making sure the subfloor is properly prepped. Get any of these wrong and you'll end up with a floor that lifts, creaks, or looks uneven. I've been called in to fix plenty of DIY jobs over the years! Monday morning and already getting questions about underfloor heating — so let me clear this one up! 🔥 A lot of people worry that their new floor won't work with underfloor heating. The good news is that LVT and most engineered wood floors are perfectly compatible with it. Laminate can work too but you need to check the manufacturer spec first. The key thing is to never crank the heat up too fast — always bring it up gradually, especially with a new floor. I always advise my customers on this before I start the job.
