This boiler service turned out to be a larger job as it hadn’t been serviced in years. Not only was the heat exchanger blocked with condense waste but the failed gasket on the electrodes meant it was leaking deadly carbon monoxide. Look how blocked the condensate trap was.

A common fault on Ideal boilers, a hairline crack in the sump causing a minor leak that corrodes the base of the boiler casing. Can sometimes go unnoticed if you don’t have the boiler serviced. Once its corroded a hole in the casing its game over, new boiler.
