A gentle reminder that the beauty is in the tending, the planting, and the patience. The rewards often arrive when we’re busy nurturing what matters most.

There’s something quietly satisfying about spending just a few minutes among the roses.

Deadheading a faded bloom, checking how the new buds are forming, taking in the scent on a warm day — it’s less about “jobs in the garden” and more about time well spent.

Rose Awareness Week begins on Monday, and it felt like the perfect moment to share a few of the simple, consistent habits that help roses thrive through the summer months.

🌹 Water deeply at the base to keep roots strong
💧 Feed regularly to encourage repeat flowering
✂️ Deadhead spent blooms to promote new growth
👀 Keep an eye on leaves for early signs of disease
🌿 Support taller or heavier stems as they grow

None of it needs to be complicated. In fact, roses tend to respond best to steady, regular attention rather than anything intensive.

And perhaps that’s part of their appeal — they give you a reason to pause, to notice, and to spend a few quiet minutes in the garden each day.

If you’re unsure about caring for your roses, or want to get more from the ones you already have, our team are always happy to help.

If you haven’t started your veg patch yet, there’s still plenty of time. June is a great moment to plant fast-growing veg and young plants for a summer and autumn harvest — from courgettes, beans and cucumbers to beetroot, there’s still lots you can grow this season 🌱
Soft fruit plants and herbs are also in their prime now, perfect for homegrown berries and fresh summer cooking.
They also make a thoughtful, productive gift idea — something a little different that keeps on growing.

Nature always seems to find a way of surprising us.

Hidden among the branches of one of our trees, the team discovered this tiny nest and its equally tiny occupants.

We think it could be a Goldcrest, but before we get too excited we'd love to hear from the bird experts amongst our followers.

What do you think? Have we correctly identified our newest visitors?

There are some plants that quietly fill gaps in the border, and then there are plants that stop you in your tracks.

Sea Holly (Eryngium) is one of them.

With its steely-blue flowers, spiky texture and striking architectural shape, Eryngium brings structure and drama to summer planting schemes while attracting bees and other pollinators in abundance.

Despite its exotic appearance, it's surprisingly easy-going, thriving in sunny spots and well-drained soils. It also looks wonderful long after flowering, adding interest well into the season.

If you're looking for a perennial that earns its place year after year, Sea Holly is hard to beat.

Have you grown Eryngium in your garden?
