If you’re at a loose end this afternoon, come to Mollington Fete which is just kicking off! Lots of fun for all the family including a dog show!

I’ll be sanding some timber we’ve milled, climbing & pruning a tree, showing how to tie knots, moving logs with the Avant loader and being available to talk about anything trees.

You might have already missed this incredible pipe band!

Instead of removing trees entirely, even completely dead ones, why not consider leaving some of the timber standing for the benefit of biodiversity? Or stack some of the fallen material to create habitat piles?

We did this to a dead oak near King’s Sutton the other week, which needed to be made safe because of the nearby access lane, preserving the stem to help sustain multiple life forms: insects, birds, fungi, lichens. This will also help with the local nutrient cycle.

One of our team leader’s father then made this nifty pen holder on his lathe with some of the wood to further preserve the tree’s uses!

🌿 JBA Making the Most of Every Situation 🌿

When a cedar tree was causing excessive damage to the surrounding area, we had to bring it down. Instead of letting it go to waste, our talented team member Louis repurposed it into a unique and stunning seat. Showcasing our creativity in tree care.

A Silver Birch we recently worked on due to the parasitic progression of Birch Polypore fungus, resulting in complete tree demise.
The tree was retained as a 4m monolith to encourage biodiversity as well as ensure there's no chance of future failure.

Did you know that Birch Polypore has a history of practical uses despite its parasitic behaviour that can cause deterioration in Silver Birch trees?

Medicinal Marvel: This fungus was traditionally used as a wound dressing due to its antibacterial properties, with some even using it as a natural bandage.

Fire-Starting Wonder: Birch Polypore can hold an ember for an extended period, making it a valuable tool for starting fires in survival situations.
