We’re thrilled to be able to share with you a recently completed project, and this time thanks to the recommendation by Greg Penn to his parents Edwardian home in Devon.

Both his parents and Greg had a good idea of what they wanted and we’re pleased to say, delighted with the result! It’s still a work in progress in places but at least the kitchen itself is up and running now.

It’s a classic shaker style that’s absolutely timeless but subtly elevated with the details around the framing. The worktable addition as an island feels very in keeping for the period, whilst sitting far more lightly in the room than a solid island and with a wall of Crittall glazing, it allows the light to flood through the space – though with deep drawers all around, it still offers plenty of storage.

A pantry cupboard behind bifold doors is perfect for keeping appliances hidden out of sight and the other bits and pieces are incorporated into the cabinetry giving the whole thing an elegant, pared back feel, letting the craftsmanship shine through.

We hope you like this first look at their new kitchen and we can’t wait to see it once the garden has been landscaped and everything finished and looking crisp!

We love a before and after, and they don’t come much more dramatic than this! A wonderful piece of modern architecture, flooded with light, with clients that wanted a similarly modern approach to their kitchen, but with a timeless design and time-honoured craftsmanship made from materials that would last.

We utilised the space beneath the stairs, that could have so easily been wasted, to create a bespoke, walk in wine cellar and we’ve utilised every inch of space to maximise storage.
A raised breakfast bar keeps the working part of the kitchen separated, and an in-counter extractor fan allows for the hob to be positioned within the island, despite the skylights above keeping the lines clean whilst effectively dealing with the steam and grease from the hob.

There’s sometimes a bit of a misconception with bespoke kitchens that they don’t belong in a modern space, but we absolutely believe our clients, regardless of their home, and style of kitchen they’re drawn to, appreciate our attention to detail in both the design and craftsmanship of our cabinetry, ultimately to create something perfect for you and your home without limitations beyond your imagination!

We promised we’d share more of the kitchen we initially posted last week – and this time reveal that beautiful pop of colour on the interior that’s a wonderful contrast to the dark, muted exterior. It also shows that we’ve been able to fit the cooker, and hob into the island – as requested by our client but managed to do so, whilst retaining the worktable feel of the island.

We sourced an oven that doesn’t require a full depth enclosure, whilst giving plenty of width to ensure adequate cooking room for a busy family kitchen, and installed a white induction hob, that blends in beautifully with the quartz top. This helps the appliances to hide in plain sight, whilst putting the cook right at the heart of the kitchen.

If you then swipe across, you’ll see that wonderful colour inside the cabinetry. Whilst it wouldn’t be everyone’s first choice, keeping the top half of the cabinet open and without doors maximises space, and keeps things organised but still effortlessly to hand. We could have also added bi-folds, or pocket doors, but this is a functional way to have storage in a busy kitchen – with the curved shelves and colours keeping it useful and beautiful!

A kitchen designed to be used and to fit around life in this warm, comfortable home.

We’re delighted to have recently been invited back to this Fulham townhouse that we installed this beautiful shaker kitchen in last year. Simple, timeless and elegant – with nothing superfluous but every detail considered!

As is often the case with our clients this one is a previous customer from 14 years ago, that even then had been recommended by a friend of theirs. It’s wonderful when old customers come back when they move or have need of a new project and there’s no better testament of our work and service that even after a decade and a half, people return to us.

It probably won’t come as much of a surprise that this client is an artist, as well as having a family. A lover of colour (the kitchen 14 years ago was colourful too!), there’s a wonderful pop of blue internally that we’ll share in another post.

One of my favourite things as someone that designs and builds kitchens, happens long after we’ve left, and sometimes – like this video – years after we fitted the kitchen, when a client drops a quick message with a note saying how much they still love their kitchen.

Greg – aka sent just this the other night, and we thought it was too nice not to share. A kitchen only really becomes a kitchen when it’s used, and this little moment of him and his fiancée cooking after work, with the beautiful evening sun coming through the trees and casting shadows caused me to smile. Not styled. Not picture perfect – just showing a lived in space being enjoyed.

Because ultimately that’s what we’re all about – creating spaces that are beautiful, loved and useful. That facilitate life – whether it’s the simple moments like this, a glamorous dinner party, or a space where the family comes together whilst the kids do their homework and mum and dad are getting the dinner sorted, so much of our lives happens in these kitchens and it makes me very proud to be a part of that!

Of course, to do that, we need to understand enough about you to really create a room that works for you – which is why from the outset it’s either me or my sister-in-law, with decades of design experience between us, that looks after you from start to finish. Getting to understand your needs to create the kitchen of your dreams!

There’s something very satisfying about a room like this coming together… there’s nothing overly showy or decorative, just properly thought through and built to be used, befitting of the architecture and space. Still a work in progress but we thought you'd enjoy seeing it.

And this boot room is very much a working space - somewhere for coats, boots, shoes and all the everyday bits that usually end up cluttering rooms they don’t belong in, but done in a way that still feels considered, calm and we think, beautiful in its honesty and simplicity… letting the space, and the craftsmanship shine through.

We’ve kept everything tied together with panelling throughout, which always helps a space feel settled and intentional, rather than separate, fitted cabinetry. The tall proportions of the space, and the furniture we made for it, gives plenty of tucked away storage (the kind you’re always grateful for later), while the open sections and hooks keep things practical and organised for day-to-day use.

The colour combination was led by the client, and it works beautifully.
The main cabinetry in ‘Invisible Green’ No.56,has a real depth to it — it shifts subtly throughout the day, never flat and makes the cabinetry feel immediately grounded – like it’s always been there. Paired with Sir Lutyens’ Sage No.302 in the seating area, it softens the space just enough and brings a bit of warmth where it matters.

Simple materials, well balanced, and built to last, with time honoured craftsmanship and a design that quietly works, without making a fuss.

Very much a work in progress but we thought you'd like a glimpse of this bespoke alcove bar we created first in CGI and then in it's installed, but unfinished state but it's already giving an idea if just how sophisticated and glamorous this space is going to be!

If you look closely, you'll see the cupboard doors at the bottom aren't quite conventional... You have to look quite hard to spot it, but that's because on the left hand side, there's a very discreet Caple wine chiller, with the ventilation hidden in the skirting.

Above are lit, mirrored shelves and at the top there's more wine storage than has it's own ladder and rail (probably best to get what you need down before indulging too much!).

We can't wait to show you it finished but hope you enjoy these in progress shots. It's amazing what, with a bit of clever design just how much you can do with a simple alcove, and what it adds to the room both in function, purpose and beauty.

We’d like to wish you a very happy Easter from all of us here at Heaven & Stubbs! After Christmas, it’s probably the time of year our kitchens get the most use and we sincerely hope those of you on cooking duties, have roasts that turn out cooked to perfection!

We love this shot of a past project and can’t imagine anywhere nicer to spend the day pottering in the kitchen with a house full of family and friends… Even the Everhot has got the Easter memo with that wonderful pop of yellow!

Our showrooms and workshops are going to enjoy this long weekend, even if the weather isn’t playing ball and we look forward to getting back to it rested and well-fed next week!
