Many florist will not think outside the box.
Why is it ?
A fear of not using the safe option of floral foam that they were taught at college.
Or is it a fear of change?
I love trying out new techniques and finding alternatives, as I for one, will always tell a bride “ I don’t use oasis “ if you are looking for arrangements done in oasis I am not the person for you to do your flowers, but there are alternatives, I use.
This was the framework for a Wedding last week, this was the centre which continued to make a similar framework to a “egg” but open for the stems to to work as a handtied.
It wasn’t hard to achieve and very pleased with final result.Happy to do workshops on different techniques if you are interested, please get in touch.

So let’s start thinking outside the box.

Not the worlds most exciting post. But to some it is !
Why?
Because it represents a method of transporting bouquets without water, which is eco friendly contains no plastic.
have made a eco wrap that holds water and wraps around the bouquet I use twine and a rubber band then a biodegradable poo bag around it, works a treat on hot days. Just take off the bag before handing over.
I also used it for buttonholes to keep fresh.
Any one else got any little tips to share for summer bouquets to keep fresh ?

A break from wreath making to do a last minute funeral. When I say last minute it was a case of a phone call in which, can you help? “ I knew I forgot to do something the flowers! “
So a call to Paul which the brief a box of vibrant British flowers please, produced a box delivered the next day.
Special request was White roses, which were imported flowers but everything else was British.
The construction was all eco friendly and biodegradable, which is every evolving as I try out new ideas, it’s surprising what we use. It’s so easy to think outside the box of using . I love coming up with new ideas.

Who would believe it !!
I have just picked Sweetpeas from the polytunnel.
As I have admit that I have not been up to the plot, as I have been busy at my other business getting the shop ready for Christmas. Also I find it not easy when like this week we have frosts and everything kneels over and completely dies, it’s heart breaking to see. But it was a surprise to see things still in flower outside, there were roses, verbena, scabious, marigolds, feverfew, mallow too.
What madness it is, for next week will be December.
And there’s me trying to keeping warm in my fingerless mittens by .jennie_knits_in_tysoe also wearing thermals, layers as I am definitely feeling the cold, mind you so Borris he’s currently dressed as a reindeer as I needed a dog coat, being a short haired dog and could only find that in his size
Must see if anything survives on the plot into December I will keep you posted.

This one was an absolute pleasure to do.
Lots of foraging with hips, berries of holly and ivy, quince, along with chrysanthemum, mallow, sage, rosemary, brassica’s, lavender,Chinese lanterns too.
I was asked for brights, an explosion of colours, like fireworks with purples to match the willow coffin, that had trims of purple on it.
This lady was spiritual and bright, and deserved flowers with natural materials, also touches of nature fitting to her.

When it would have been the date of your Mother’s Birthday and you find a photograph of you both together, which is rare indeed even though we worked together daily.
This photograph as more special meaning as it was the first time I worked on a big event with her, as this was at the beginning of my florist journey. As many of you may know I had a career change and followed my Mother in her trade as a florist. I must say looking back she was a great mentor and her attention to detail was second to none.
As you can see she was a larger lady at one stage. Over time she lost over 4 stone and struggled to breathe, eat and drink, regularly choking. This we found out later after her death that in fact after 18 months of hospital visits that in fact she had a type of MND.
For the month of November my sister as completing 3000 squats for the challenge to give something back into researching this terrible disease. It’s going to be hard but not as hard as living with this disease on a day basis.
