🌳🍂 Why now is a great time to get your trees and shrubs sorted — before nesting season kicks in! 🍂🌳
As we head toward the end of autumn and into early winter, conditions are ideal to carry out tree and shrub work — and here’s why it makes sense to act now.
• Trees are dormant and stress-free. Without leaves, we can clearly see the tree’s structure and pinpoint dead, damaged or diseased limbs. That makes pruning, shaping and risk removal far easier and more precise.
• Lower risk of disease or pests. Many pests and fungal diseases lie dormant over winter, so pruning & trimming now reduces the chance of fresh wounds becoming infection spots.
• Better healing and stronger spring growth. Cuts made during dormancy allow trees to heal naturally — then, when spring arrives, the tree can put its energy into healthy new growth, not repairing damage.
• Avoid disruption to wildlife. The main bird-nesting season in the UK runs from about March to August. Once nesting begins, felling, pruning or hedge-trimming may be illegal or cause major delays.
⚠️ Why letting problematic trees linger can be risky
Dead or cracked limbs, signs of disease, or a leaning tree can all pose a serious hazard — especially over winter storms, heavy winds or snow. Ignoring these issues can lead to fallen branches, damage to property (or people), and more costly emergency work later.

✅ What you should consider doing now:
• If you spot dead branches, fungal growth, large cracks or leaning trees, get them checked now.
• If you want crown reductions, hedge trimming, shaping or structural pruning, now’s the optimal time.
• We’ll always check for wildlife before work — and carry out work only when safe and legal.
