It’s been a while since I posted about my business. The last couple years have been busier than ever but I’ll still always prioritise existing local customers and the many recommendations provided by those customers. Just this week I’ve undertaken the following jobs, creating another dozen or so happy customers!
On Monday I replaced 8 misted glass units in Chapeltown before making one of my
own neighbours home much more safer by fitting a new Snap-Safe cylinder to their front door.
On Tuesday, in Barnsley I did several jobs at a house on Moorland Avenue. New rubbers gaskets, a new letterbox, new door handles and of course new Snap-Safe cylinders. Then over to Dodworth, to adjust a single door and a set of double doors. From Dodworth I then went to Darton, again, to upgrade a vulnerable cylinder with a Snap-Safe replacement.
On Wednesday I supplied and fitted a Polished Chrome letterbox to a composite door in Cudworth. I then also increased the level of security on the back door by fitting a new Snap-Safe cylinder. Then I went up the road to Sidcop Road in Cudworth to realign a door because my customer couldn’t easily lock it. Now it’s better than it’s ever been ! From Cudworth I called to Clumber St in Barnsley. This existing customer needed a new cylinder …. You’ll know what I fitted ! On the way home I called in at Gildhirst Court, here in Birdwell. Our estate has recently had a gang of dropouts attempting to steal cars, unfortunately not without success, considerable damage, police car chases and now a much more alert and security conscious community. This customer had me replace 3 old, dated and vulnerable cylinders with ‘you know whats’ ! I was also asked to replace the boring white handles on their double doors with modern Polished Chrome alternatives…. Job done !
Thursday was a day trip to Lakeside in Doncaster. No, not to the Lakeside Shopping Centre. It was to replace 6 x pairs of window hinges which had become faulty resulting in the 6 openers all being extremely draughty, some were even whistling ! I called over to Monk Breton on the way back to supply and fit a new pair of white handles to a door.
Friday…. 3 jobs in Chapeltown. Firstly I was on Blackburn Drive to replace an old cylinder with a ‘you know what’, then up the road to replace 3 x misted glass units, a pair of dated door handles and also I fitted 2 x ‘you know what’s’ ….. ( Snap-Safe, Pick-Safe & Drill-Safe cylinders). To finish the week off I went to a house on Broadway Avenue in Chapeltown. The front door was really misaligned and tricky to close without a loud slam. Job done. This customer also had an opener in their conservatory which wouldn’t open. The locking mechanism gearbox had failed. Within the hour I’d manipulated the mechanism without leaving a single mark on the frame, got the window open and fitted a new gearbox to the mechanism.
Between these were several other visits to price jobs and to survey other jobs.
I’ve now established a relationship with a new local glass unit manufacturer. I searched for a company just like BHB when my old supplier not only became unreliable (telling me glass was ready to be collected before it had even been cut / making units the wrong size / obvious marks and scratches ) but they also, quite surprisingly, suggested buyers have them to replace glass units and ‘cut out the middleman’… not the best idea because I was one of the middlemen and I bought from them, every week…. for years !
This has resulted in a huge benefit to my customers because I’m now able to offer new glass units at an even more competitive (and VAT free) price. The glass units I’m buying now are more than 25% cheaper than they were from my old supplier and this saving is being passed onto my customers.
