Always lovely to see spring is on the way during a survey visit this week.

This lovely Cotswold stone cottage, south of Bath, is getting an update, replacing an ageing conservatory with a modern rear dining extension.

The brief: maximum glazing and a standing seam metal roof to sit beautifully against the stone. Exciting things ahead.

Light and materiality working together—Batheaston extension.

Herringbone oak flooring throughout. Kitchen, dining, and living spaces overlooking elevated patio with views across Bath.

The project also included a dream garage for a classic car (a fellow MG owner!). Flexible studio with rooflight (yoga space now, annexe later if needed).

Every detail considered in plan and section to make the most of a challenging cranked plot and stepped levels.

I'm pleased to share that I've won Best of Houzz Service for 2026—my fifth time receiving this award since 2021.

This recognition comes from client reviews, and I'm grateful to everyone who's taken the time to share their experience. Listening to clients, responding to the house and its context, and designing to the brief—when you get these fundamentals right, it shows in the results and in client satisfaction.

Thank you to everyone who's worked with me over the past year. Here's to another year of thoughtful extension and renovation projects across Bath, Bristol, and Wiltshire.

Batheaston extension—making the most of a cranked plot and a slim strip of additional land.

These clients bought the plot alongside their home and asked us to create a classic car garage, home studio (that could work as an annexe), and a large open-plan kitchen-dining-living space.

The bonuses: ensuite, southwest-facing roof terrace, and lower ground floor living that connects straight to the rear garden.

Traditional Bath stone exterior meets contemporary interior—plus a dream garage for a fellow MG owner.

Design presentation day at Lacey Architecture 📐

This is where weeks of listening, sketching, and refining come together—floor plans, elevations, and material palettes all laid out for our clients to review.

For this Bath project, we've explored multiple floor plan options alongside timber cladding, zinc roofing, hung tiles, and crittall-style glazing. Real-world examples help clients visualise their future home before we move forward.

Now it's over to them to choose their preferred route.
Every extension and renovation project we take on gets this level of care—detailed drawings paired with curated inspiration so nothing's left to guesswork.

Creating Warmth in the Bath Countryside 🏡

Caught up with some wonderful homeowners in a beautiful village just outside Bath this week to see their completed home extension! Well, just look at the result...

This renovation project was all about connecting their family home to the annex, creating a bright, practical, and truly enjoyable space. We think this looks like the perfect cosy spot for winter relaxing and cuddling up with the whole family, don't you?

A huge shout-out to .build for their expertise and thorough attention to detail. Their hard work on the stonework, complex scribing, and the extensive built-in storage has delivered a beautiful, crisp, yet utterly homely finish.

Thinking about a home improvement project in the Bath area? As your approachable architect, I really listen to your needs and am dedicated to designing clever spaces that respond beautifully to the local context and make the most of your home.

Caught up with some lovely clients to review their finished home improvement project. 🐾

The challenge here was interesting: we needed to design around the existing kitchen to create a bright, larger living area while ensuring the home was future-proofed for the long term.

The solution involved creating a dedicated boot room—perfect for muddy boots and acting as a "dog paws control area"—plus a much more generous ground floor shower room. It’s not just about adding space; it’s about creating practical, enjoyable spaces that work for the people (and pets) living in them.

A fantastic result that is sympathetic to the context of the building.

It's amazing what a thoughtful home renovation can achieve! 🤯

Swipe to see how we helped our clients transform a cluttered, underutilised space into a cosy, functional, and stylish reading nook and library area. This renovation project was all about listening to the homeowner's needs and making the absolute most of the available space, turning a neglected corner into a bright, practical, enjoyable area of the family home. This is what happens when you combine clever architectural design with a client who trusts the process.

As a local Bath architect, I love these types of home-improvement projects! I specialise in clever home design that truly reflects the way you live.

Back on Site and Charmed by a Period Home!

On my first site survey since breaking my collarbone in August, I was utterly charmed by the beautiful period features of this Bath home. It’s a wonderful example of how homeowners can retain original character while planning for a contemporary future.

I especially loved the unique hallway window, the perfectly proportioned double bay window, and the original front door with its stained glass. We won't be changing these features. Instead, the focus of our home extension will be on creating a modern rear addition that provides all the space and facilities needed for today's lifestyle.

Our goal is to create an extension that beautifully complements the existing house, giving the clients their dream home without losing any of its original charm. As a residential architect, I understand the importance of making the most of a home's heritage while delivering a fantastic modern space.

Sometimes, the most beautiful spaces are hiding in plain sight. This home renovation shows how you can completely transform a space without needing a huge extension.

By simply re-working the layout—taking down internal walls, moving a door, and creating larger windows—we were able to create a bright and inviting environment perfect for modern family life. The new open plan kitchen and beautiful herringbone flooring connect the spaces and add real value to the home.

If you could transform one room in your home, which would it be?

This is not a renovation I’d planned for! This photo shows my break and then the new 'fixings' now holding my collarbone together. August was definitely a month of unexpected challenges and a lot of rest.

It's been a real challenge not having full use of my dominant arm—being an architect with only one hand is not recommended!

The good news is that I'm now starting to feel much better, and it's taught me a lot about the kindness of those around me. Thank you so much to my amazing neighbours, my partner and my friends for their help and care packages, and to my lovely clients who sent thoughtful get well soon cards.

It's a reminder that even when things don't go to plan, a great support network makes all the difference. I'm so grateful for everyone's patience and am looking forward to getting back to a 'full-service' capacity shortly!

For those curious; I did it exercising at home! And they say exercise is meant to be "good for you"! 😅
