It is a friendly shop with a country/coastal/shabby chic look full of painted and distressed vintage furniture, pretty cushions, lighting and gifts. The accent is on making things unique and sourcing handmade goods from gifted artisans and craft workers. The full colour range of Annie Sloan paint, tester pots and waxes are stocked at the shop (lots of fun if you want to re-vamp a piece of furnitur

Chairs are re-covered using vintage fabrics, rustic stripes and checks. Lighting is individual and simple ranging from chandeliers to tea light jars with everything in-between.

It's Wednesday and time to share with you a painted piece by one of our family of talented stockists. Jacqueline Evans has a beautiful shop called Vanilla Hill in the stunning town of Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. The colours in Jacqui’s shop reflect the stunning pale blues, pinks and greys of the pretty coastal town and coastline.

Jacqui has been part of our Stockist community for almost five years although she has been painting furniture in her country French style for much longer. Jacqui is also a very talented seamstress and makes curtains and blinds for customers far and wide. Her shop is always a hive of activity whether she is cutting and sewing in her fabric room or painting in the shop, there is always an interesting enterprise to spectate.

Vanilla Hill is a feast for the eyes with furniture painted in light, pleasing hues, displayed with cushions made by Jacqui in softly pattered vintage French style linens. Other lovely items for the home decorate the shop: beautiful lamps, candles, ceramics and wall hangings. There is always something to catch the eye.

This lovely chiffonier is painted by Jacqui in Paris grey. She has then used a stencil with Aubusson on the doors and drawer. While applying the Aubusson, Jacqui varied the application of paint to make it “evenly uneven” - a technique that is subconsciously pleasing to the eye. Using a fine sandpaper, Jacqui has sanded the edges and areas where there may be natural wear and tear. During this process, she also sanded gently over the stencilled area to give the effect of an aged paint finish. The piece is then finished with clear wax.
