AMBER WARNING

As expected, Met Office have now issued an amber warning for snow and ice in parts of Northern Ireland

This warning is through to 4am tomorrow morning.

SNOW INBOUND

Interesting snow depth outputs from the latest 6am model run. A band of sleet and snow now looks set to move across NI early Thursday morning. Inland and western areas could see a good layer of snow come Thursday night, which could cause disruption. Those closer to the coast should expect more in the way of sleet and minimal disruption.

Met Office do currently have a yellow warning out for snow but I suspect this could be upgraded in the next 24 hrs ❄️❄️

Beyond this, things look to stay cool and unsettled throughout the next week. Make sure to wrap up well.

AUGUST OUTLOOK

Current models are suggesting a warm, dry and sunny first half of the month before becoming more unsettled for the second half of the month.

Temperatures are expected to increase this weekend and through next week, peaking on Wednesday/Thursday. All areas will see plenty of sunny weather and temperatures widely in the mid 20's. Wednesday and Thursday could reach highs of 27C/28C in some areas.

Becoming cooler and cloudier from next weekend, with a low-pressure system pushing in from the north west. Wetter weather is expected the following week as temperatures drop and a band of rain moves in.

UK Record temperature has just been broken as confirmed by Met Office - A scorching temperature of 39.1C

“🌡️ A temperature of 39.1°C has provisionally been recorded at Charlwood, Surrey If confirmed this will be the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK⚠️ Temperatures are likely to rise further through today 📈 ”

A humid night last night with some spots dipping no lower than 20C 🥵. Today it will be cooler and cloudier, especially in the north and west of the country. Further east it will stay bright into the afternoon and temperatures could reach 25C/26C. Areas away from the far east will generally see temperatures of 21C/22C.

A low pressure system will continue to push across the country tonight and temperatures will return to normal from tomorrow onwards.

Update later today on the model predictions for August!

Very warm conditions across the country with 27C/28C widely reported at 1pm. I fully expect temperatures to hit 30C in areas of Northern Ireland.

Yet to be seen if the record of 31.3C will be broken today

A muggy night tonight as temperatures falling no lower than 17C/18C. Tomorrow temperatures will increase quickly and by mid afternoon a few places will see 29C/30C. This will be the hottest day of the year so far by a long stretch

For pet owners don’t forget to leave out plenty of cold water and keep parts of the house cool by closing blinds and using a fan where possible. For dog walkers, try to walk dogs early morning / late night to avoid heat exhaustion.
