Peter the Bee and Friends

Peter the Bee and Friends We are Peter the Bee and Friends, a partnership dedicated to growing insect friendly wild-flowers for all types of gardeners and gardens.

Based in the Wyre Forest on Ruskin Land, we grow native wildflowers as important food sources for pollinators, we do this because saving our pollinating insects is vital to the long term wellbeing of us all. We believe the best way to help our declining pollinators is to plant native or naturalised wild flowers, no matter how big or small your space. We have been frustrated and saddened for some y

ears to see so many plants for sale which, although lovely, offer no benefits to our pollinators at a time when they need our help more than ever. And sadly, too often mass-commercially available 'plants for pollinators' are also doused with pesticides and chemical feed, which defeats their very purpose. We use no pesticides or peat. Our range of wild-flowers encourage a huge range of pollinators with their diverse beauty. There are over 4,000 different pollinators in the UK, from Bumblebees to Moths. These insects are in serious decline, and most are attracted to the plants we remember from our childhoods which, due to changing habitats and fashions, are less common than they used to be, or are thought of as weeds. We want to change that mis-conception. We are selling at local Farmer's Markets and specialist plant fairs, so keep watch for our updates. Help Peter the Bee and all his pollinating friends!

One of the more unusual native wildflowers we grow at Peter the Bee and Friends — Dyer’s Greenweed (Genista tinctoria).

A beautiful native sub-shrub of dry grassland and old commons, producing masses of yellow pea flowers loved by pollinators.

This stock plant was originally grown from seed collected (with permission) from a Worcestershire roadside verge nature reserve near Malvern and is now around five years old.

Unlike many wildflowers, Dyer’s Greenweed forms a compact woody mound, making it ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens and poorer soils.

Historically it was even used as a source of yellow dye — hence the name.
