Love the growing bit… the planting bit 🤪

Tray’s ready — drifts of sweet williams, larkspur and true wild chrysanthemum, all grown from our own seed, going out today in St Leonards for that late spring / early summer colour.

Wallflowers stealing the show in the background from last year… proof it’s worth the effort (even if I moan about it 😅)

Tulips doing their thing 🌷

Easy, fun, and one of the quickest ways to bring early colour into a tired, winter-worn space. From bold brights to soft pastels, singles to doubles—there’s a style for every border or pot.

If your garden’s feeling a bit flat right now, tulips will lift it fast.

Top 5 things to do now:
• Deadhead spent blooms (keep the energy in the bulb)
• Leave the foliage to die back naturally
• Keep pots watered, especially in dry spells
• Feed with a general fertiliser to help next year’s display
• Keep an eye out for tulip fire—remove and bin any affected plants

Simple, effective, and always worth it.

A bit of winter work on these climbing roses along the fence.

Good rose pruning is really about building the framework for the season ahead—training the main stems and opening the plant up so it encourages strong new shoots and a profusion of flowers through the season. Timing matters too; doing this work while the plant is still dormant helps direct that spring growth where you want it.

Second photo is the same spot last summer when everything had filled out and the first flush of flowers was well underway.

One of the best ways to deal with an ugly fence is simply to grow roses over it! 🥰🌹

Wouldn’t call it rock-and-roll gardening, but winter is the perfect time to tackle those DIY jobs that keep our gardens together. 🌿

In this St Leonard’s garden, a failing fence post was holding up an old trellis—one or two more storms away from coming down and risking the most gorgeous Hydrangea petiolaris.

Replacing the post and trellis would be ideal, but the vine has woven itself beautifully into the structure. Simple concrete spurs will support it for years to come, letting the vine stay put and those early summer blooms and foliage flourish.

January is usually about groundwork and setting things up for the year ahead.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been focused on mulching, some ongoing landscaping work, and winter maintenance across a mix of private gardens and our larger commercial sites.

Next up is rose work and winter tidies to get gardens ready for spring.

Planning and investing time now in your garden makes a big difference later in the year.

As winter starts to ease, we’re returning to work and opening a small number of bookings from February onwards.

We offer full garden care — from lawns and hedges to borders and seasonal planting — for clients who value a well-kept garden throughout the year.

This shot is from a border we tend to - A splash of atriplex, a single sunflower in bloom, and some zinnias just peeking out before exploding with colour for late summer

If you’d like to get plans in place for the year ahead, feel free to get in touch.

A small example of how we can help freshen up and expand your garden. Lovely couple recently moved into there new home in Ninfield needed a hand with some heavy lifting. Fair to say they worked really hard throughout the garden. But needed help removing three overbearing phormiums, installing a privacy hedge of Portuguese laurel and photinia and developing a flower bed for a summer annual cut flower garden. Opening up the two beds has really added a feeling of space and interest I to two areas that felt quite dark and claustrophobic.
Really looking forward to seeing the results of the flower beds later this year!

We’re taking bookings if you would like help in your garden!

We do garden clearances! This one in st Leonard’s hadn’t seen enough attention over the last few years. We tidied up shrubs and pulled up a lot of allium triquetrum (three cornered leeks not wild garlic) proper pain in the butt! We’ve added a thick layer of mulch ready for some planting late spring.

If your dreams of a beautiful or functional garden first require a good clear out, get in touch we’d be happy to advise or offer no obligation quote.

I couldn’t help but look back at one of the most pleasant gardens to work after a really refreshing spring cut back. Full of movement, colour and texture. Mix of perennials, annuals and shrubs mostly gifted or self seeded it hold a truly authentic and natural feel. Really excited for the upcoming summer!
