Bicester's Community Garden

Bicester's Community Garden A little oasis for people, gardening and wildlife in the midst of the town.

Creating a beautiful essential Community green space close to Bicester Town Centre, at the old St Edburg's School
We are looking for enthusiastic people to join us :-) Our aim is to transform an area of waste land in the heart of Bicester into a thriving food & wildlife garden. An outdoor community resource, where people of all ages and from all walks of life get together to develop and maintain

an inspiring green space. Created and cultivated by people of all ages and abilities the garden will work with nature to create a great place for people and wildlife to enjoy. The garden is about our community, whether in Bicester or the wider area, and we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in our work. This can be as a visitor to the garden, as a member of our volunteer team, or as a participant in one of our events.

Bicester's Community Garden is currently on but not to Nature!

We spent some time there today enjoying the fresh air & pottering around doing little oddjobs.. there is still a lot of work to be done & we are looking forward to being able to schedule work sessions again.

It was amazing to see so much in bloom especially seeds that we had planted in the winter. Our wildflower areas are blooming & buzzing with bees & other insects (we counted at least 5 different types of bee in the short time we were taking photos). We have lovely Yellow Rattle growing up the hill & in the soft fruit bed we have grown a lovely mixture of bee loving plants: Borage, Phacelia and Essex Broad Red Clover. Foxgloves that we grew last summer from seed are also now in bloom.
As you can see some of the garden needs a little attention & the weeds are growing freely, however it is as nature intended, so who are we to go & spoil the natural order?

Our Heritage Fruit Tree Co trees are all thriving & we have tiny Victoria Plums & Discovery Apples growing already. It would be lovely to hear back from the schools later in the year to see how their Orchards are coming along too.

We will keep you all posted over the coming weeks & announce our work sessions just as soon as it's safe enough to get back to it.

Keep safe everyone

Keep your eyes peeled for Christmas Gifts that Grow

Random acts of kindness from the Grassroots Bicester team.

If you find one, feel free to take it.

Send us photos of your beautiful sunflowers next summer when they are in bloom πŸ’š

Our team have spent the afternoon creating Christmas Gifts that Grow. As part of the Bicester Acts of Kindness movement, we have created envelopes containing Sunflower seeds as a little Christmas gift to whoever finds them.

We will be hiding them in shops, schools and businesses around Bicester from the end of November. If you find one of our envelopes, please feel free to take it. πŸ’š

As well as our envelopes, we will be hanging seed packets on our Christmas Tree at the St Edburg's Church Christmas Tree festival. Please take one from there if you see one
