Long Lea

Long Lea It also means we are not spamming the timeline of our own accounts :)

We moved to Long Lea in 2005 and, so that we have somewhere to keep our photos, we thought we would create this page especially as we start in 2020 to re-build our home.

Thanks Matt and Kevin (Matt's Interior Exterior Installations) for helping put the finishing touch to the house by re-fitting our log burner. I know it was a complicated job but you guys aced it 👍

It's take 1 superstar Lee to get us 1 day at a time to this point which is the home stretch. Hard work without a doubt. 👍

Everyone said the groundworks take much longer than you expect but pleased to say that Lee finished the driveway today. Plenty more to do though! LOL

Who did your patio? - Lee
Just one person? - Yes
How long did it take? - Just over 4 minutes.

Clever old Lee finished the patio today. Brilliant work. Next challenge is the driveway after he catches his breath 😉

We've not posted for a while as I'm sure people were getting a bit bored of them all but just in case you've missed the progess report, here's a brief update. SGC Glass came and fitted a cat flap in the triple glazed bi-folds and made it look easy. Lulu then made it look very hard to use which it isn't. Both cats are fine now though. We're hoping SGC can do the kitchen splashback also. Lee has been busy in the garden putting in foundations, building walls, running drainage and moving 120 tons of type 1 and 20 tons of soil. After 7 weeks of preparation the first slate tiles started to go back down with help from his son Luke. Thanks guys. This week we put out a call to friends for some muscle as we fitted the (very heavy) glass balustrades, brilliant job we owe you a 🍺. Steve was here for a few days putting a top coat on the doors and making the holes (from the leak) invisible. Andy is due back soon to power up the hot tub and sign off on the electrics. Finally, 2 new members of the household, Jimmy and Stevie from Pussycat Lodge Trust, moved into the spare room today after 2 months looking for a new home. We hope they enjoy their new home as much as we are.

Lee started the ground work on Monday with foundation trenches for walls which will frame the patio. Great service from NPH Newmarket Plant Hire when the digger had a fault, engineer on site within 30 mins! The extra solar panels are now online and producing enough to power the house and more - thanks to the 2x Matts and Eddie from Use The Sun, we just need SolarEdge Technologies Inc. to pull their finger out and get the design updated on my app else it looks like only half is working. Lee found the old well we had been looking for which we will uncover another day and today Exact Mix Concrete supplied the concrete while Canvey concrete pumping ltd put it in the right place, 2 brilliant companies who went the extra mile on a Friday afternoon when we were 2m3 short in our calculations.

Well no news from us lately means big news as we moved in last Thursday and celebrated as normal with a pizza and a bottle of Moet. So that's 234 from the first day of demolition of the old bungalow to the first sleep in the new house.... and that's during a period of huge change in the building industry as a result of Covid and we think Brexit has played its part too. There are far too many people to thank in this post but you know who you are and so do we! There are a few little bits to finish off like doors, glass balustrade and a leaky waste pipe to repair but we're in. Next week the groundworks start which will frame our new house beautifully. Just need England to win the football and we're sorted. And finally to David who is still recovering after an operation to fix his shoulder.... we've left the last plug socket for you to do when you're back 🤣👍😉

This week Colin finished all the flooring, even the fiddly bits and Paul got the sink in. Dan has lagged all the pipes while the cupboard was empty and has all the remaining plumbing bits ready to go in over the next week. Staircase got bumped from Friday to Monday so we've put the temporary one back in. House starting to feel more like a home now and Daisy seems to approve. Nearly there!

This week has mainly been about shiny balls, latex goo and vinyl floors and some more fascinating research, this time at the records office. Still not located the old well though. Brilliant work Colin & Harry with the flooring 👍🙂 on the other hand, rubbish service from Leader Stores who are really hard to get through to on the phones, slow to respond to emails and have yet to replace the 7 damaged doors 😡
