We are in the process of gathering feedback on the redevelopment of the former Heaton Royds School, for the demolition of the former disused school and the formation of a residential care home. The care home is proposed to have 75 rooms with en-suites and associated facilities, parking, and landscaping all within curtilage of the site.
We would appreciate you taking the time to read this and give any feedback you may have by contacting us by email or post. (Information at the end of the post) additionally we are holding a site meeting on Friday 15th March at the site for more information please see end of post.
Site History
The application site has for many years been left derelict and untidy. It has become an eyesore with Health and Safety issues.
Heaton Royds School was a primary school located between Bradford and Shipley. The school provisionally taught pupils aged 2 – 11. The school closed in March 2010 after being declared structurally unsound.
In 2018, a planning application for 14 new homes was submitted and subsequently withdrawn. Since then, the site has stood derelict ever since.
The site has been used as a dumping ground and left to overgrow and used by undesirables for activities which do not compliment the area. The site has also suffered from vandalism and parts of the existing building have also been damaged by fire.
The site is located approximately 2.8 mile North-West of Bradford city centre.
Proposal
The proposed scheme is the for the demolition of the former disused school and the formation of a residential care home. The care home is proposed to have 75 rooms with en-suites and associated facilities, parking, and landscaping all within curtilage of the site.
Access
There is a single proposed vehicular access into the site via Redburn Drive. A secondary access via a public footpath via Heaton Royds Lane is not being utilised for our proposal.
A total of 30 no parking spaces including 2 disabled parking spaces and 3 EV parking spaces has been proposed in order to meet the public needs. The scheme also includes 10 cycle parking spaces, this has been proposed with 5 Sheffield style hoops within the building. There will be low maintenance landscaping in order to even out the land where necessary. Below is the proposed site plan showing the layout of the site.
The proposed scheme will offer job opportunities to the local area through the construction phase, and for care staff, once completed within the vicinity of the town centre. The application proposal will restore a long derelict site back to life.
It will bring forward a development scheme which has been carefully considered, and that results in a form of a sympathetic development to Greenbelt.
We have arranged for a representative to be at the site entrance on Friday 15th March from 10:00 until noon, such that the public can visit and ask any questions they may have.
If you have any queries as to the location of the meeting, please feel free to contact us prior to the meeting using the email address shown below.
We will be discussing the principle of the proposal and inviting members of the public to share their thoughts and put forward any comments they wish to raise.
If you cannot make the public consultation date and have any comments or questions, please inform us by either:
