Did you know that not so long ago, architecture was created almost entirely by hand?

Hours at the drawing board, layers of tracing paper, ink-stained fingers, and redrawn plans every time something changed. Every line had weight, every mistake had consequences.

Today, the process looks very different.
At ALNBM, we work mostly in Revit, where buildings are no longer just drawings, but intelligent models. Design, structure, and coordination come together in one place.

The tools have changed dramatically, but the goal hasn’t:to design spaces that work, last, and make sense in the real world.

Thank you creators of CAD!

Starting the year where design meets business.

We’re thrilled to share that imm cologne 2026 - the re-imagined international interior business event - starts today and runs until January 23, 2026, in Cologne, Germany.

This leading B2B trade fair brings together the global furniture and interiors industry under one roof, showcasing market-ready products, setting new trends, and creating valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Across four days, the focus is on business, innovation, and design - from conventional and ready-to-assemble furniture to fresh perspectives on contemporary living. A true hub for professionals shaping the future of interiors.

We can’t wait to explore inspiring trends, connect with fellow creatives, and see where 2026 takes us in interior and furniture design.

The 45° Rule explained

A simple planning guideline used in the UK to assess whether a proposed extension could reduce daylight to a neighbouring window.

45° lines are drawn from the centre of a neighbouring habitable room window in both plan and elevation.

If the extension stays outside these lines, the impact on daylight is usually acceptable.
If it breaks both, a significant loss of light may occur, and further assessment is often required.

Remembering Frank Owen Gehry (1929–2025).

Through drawings, models, and built work, he reshaped the language of architecture with intuition, movement, and light.

His life and legacy will be remembered through the architecture he left behind

These are some of our favourite designs:

The Dancing House - Prague, 1996

Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles, 2003

Louis Vuitton Foundation - Paris, 2014

It’s more than tradition - it’s geology, history, regulation and culture converging to shape a single material into Britain’s architectural language.

With abundant clay beneath our feet, brick rose as the industrial workhorse.
After the Fire of 1666, it became the trusted, fire-safe choice.
In a wet climate, it proved the most resilient and durable.
Surrounded by Victorian neighbourhoods, it naturally became the contextual choice.

Today, brick continues to define the texture and rhythm of the UK’s urban fabric.

For us at ALNBM Architects, brick isn’t a constraint but a medium for texture, pattern and modern character.

Here’s a look at one of our loft conversions. Turning an unused space into a bedroom.

At ALNBM, we carefully develop a full sectional study of the existing roof geometry, verifying all critical heights and clearances

This ensures:
• comfortable movement throughout the room
• optimal placement of furniture
• compliance with UK building regulations

From concept to construction, we make sure every millimetre works for you

🏡✨ Cozy, but is it legal?

This snug bedroom looks inviting, but UK housing regulations are very specific about minimum bedroom sizes.

👉 Question: What’s the minimum floor area required for a legal single bedroom (for one person over 10 years old)?

A) 4.5 m²
B) 6.51 m²
C) 7.45 m²

💬 Drop your guess in the comments!

✅ Answer: The correct answer is B) 6.51 m²

📌 According to the Housing Act 2004 (HMO Licensing Regulations 2018):
Single bedroom (1 person, over 10) → 6.51 m²
Double bedroom (2 people) → 10.22 m²
Child under 10 → 4.64 m²

Anything smaller cannot legally be used as a bedroom.
