The House That Almost Didn’t Make It. We were involved right from the start in the rescue of this old house, destined for demolition.

On this project we converted part of the garage to add a new utility room and walk in pantry. We relocated the kitchen to an existing unused space, adding a large roof lantern. The existing kitchen became a new inviting entrance hallway with cloaks storage and WC.

Breaking bad news to clients is never easy, but thanks to the calm and efficient approach of the builder, we kept this project on track, providing comfort and clarity to the clients. Brought in by D5 to assist with structural design for another architect’s design, we quickly identified a significant issue: a 900mm diameter pipe with a 5m no-build zone that jeopardized the entire proposal.

With teamwork at the forefront, we crafted a new design that respected the constraints while meeting the client’s brief. The result? An innovative wedged-shaped extension featuring a custom wedge-shaped roof light and a sleek wedge shaped kitchen island beneath the roof light. This project is a perfect example of how creativity can turn challenges into exciting compromises!
