Was great to meet everyone yesterday at the event at !

Thanks to everyone involved putting on the exhibition, and everyone who came over for a chat!

Also, a big thanks to for providing a touchscreen keypad with home automation hub built in for us to show off. We had a lot of interest! Just FYI, there was more interest when I set the screensaver to "beach" than when I had it on "jellyfish" 😁

Why do we recommend Hikvision turret cameras rather than dome cameras? - Although Hikvision seem to have done a lot to prevent the glass dome from fogging up, there are certain weather conditions which are the perfect causes of condensation. If that condensation is in front of the IR LEDs in the night, the IR light reflects straight back into the camera lens, resulting in a very poor image. The turret-style cameras solve this potential issue by simply separating the IR light from behind the same glass as the lens. There's obviously more to it than that, but just by separating the lens and IR LEDs, it becomes impossible for the IR light to reflect straight back into the lens!

Maybe we should start a museum for some of this old alarm equipment? Or maybe it's just me who likes to see old bell boxes still working out there...

This one is a bell box with an actual ringing bell rather than a siren and is one of several we still look after. I would guess we were fitting these mid-late 80s but they still ring just fine when triggered!

Before and after we put up a Pyronix KX15DT. Why have a wireless alarm when wired is just as neat? Why have decorations done after the alarm is fitted? - This usually leads to paint getting on our nice new sensors!

It's been nice to be outdoors for a change! Most of this week has been spent in the sun, installing new bell boxes, a few cameras, a reflector ray and ending the week with a couple of external dualtech detectors in a building type we've never secured before: a round, semi-covered pavillion!

Firstly, I should say this was not fitted by us! Secondly, after loosening the lower screws slightly, I think I discovered why it doesn't work. This is not a fault of the Hikvision turret camera, or at least not a fault we have ever had with any of the cameras we've installed. I would guess that the rubber seal was damaged during installation and whoever fitted it tried to compensate by over-tightening the screws (these were very chewed up).
