When planning out your garden, don't forget all of the beautiful native flora available. Native flowers are great for the local ecosystem and using them removes the risk of spreading invasive species into you local area, all while looking amazing and being easy to grow! Here are three native flowers that we just love and would recommend to anyone considering what to plant.
1. European Pasqueflower - Pulsatilla vulgaris:
This stunning flower is native to most parts of the UK, however it is nearly extinct locally and is mostly found in continental Europe. By planting Pasqueflowers you can help bring a struggling native plant back to your area while also enjoying their distinctive clumps of purple flowers
2. Primroses - Primula vulgaris
A popular plant, primroses come in many different colours and are found all over the British isles, loved for their bright colours and ease of growing these amazing flowers are an excellent choice for any garden. The fact that there are native species of primrose that benefit local ecology is just an additional bonus for these beloved plants
3. Wood Anemone - Anemone nemorosa
Native to the woodlands of Britain the Wood Anemone is a particular favourite of ours and is perfect for filling shaded spots in a garden or landscape. Not only can you enjoy their distinctive flowers that form a five-pointed star, but their dense layer of leaves create a delightfully textured carpet of greenery year round.
